741, Found a 1G for sale... what do you guys think?

Ok, it's a 92 Talon Tsi AWD, 30k miles. Yes, that's correct 30k on the body. Black on black. The guy has put around $11k into it. He didn't go into details on all the mods, but he said a Shep tranny for sure, and a Big 16G turbo. I'm assuming it's had a rebuild, but I could be wrong. He said that all the work was done at Buschur's shop. He also said that it dynoed at 400hp. The interior and exterior are PERFECT. The car looks showroom new. He wants $11k for it. "You buy the mods, the car comes free." as he put it. I think I might have to pick it up. You guys think it's a good deal, or should the modifications not hold that much value on resale? Thanks for the help.

11k for a 1g? Yeah right, he's out of his mind no matter what he has done to it, mods dont really add to a resale value. In fact I'd avoid modded cars at all costs.

Yeah, $11k is high. And no bank will give me a loan for an $11k car that has a Blue Book value of $3k. So how much do you guys think it would be worth then?

Well, if its the top of the line, with power acc. and such, it almost books for 5 since you said its in excellent condition. I would take the mods into consideration. I would offer him about $6500. Figure out exactly what mods its got first though.

plus adjust for wear and tear / used mods imo ;)

agree with ^^^. Tell him you're looking at other cars but if he wants to sell it today you'll do $6.5k right now.

is he from nigeria and telling you to keep the extra 5k from the travelers check hes sending?

pics or ban

400awhp? interesting...

11k? does that include an 05 neon?

even 6k is too much. my blue 1g only has 65k on it. it is not immaculate though. either way, i paid 3450 for it a few years ago.

Not worth the $ IMO. Some guy at the DSM meet last night was selling his modded 1G for $6500 and everyone thought he was crazy. If I ever got a 1G I don't think I could ever pay over $5000 for it. On 3si, we have guys selling high horsepower cars for barely more then what they cost stock. The only people that ask 20,000 for their 93 VR4 w/ 500AWHP never end up getting it. This guy I met yesterday bought his 97 VR4 w/ 15K miles for $25000 a year and a half ago, which is a little to much but not almost 4 times what it's worth, like w/ this guys 1G. Good luck w/ the decision.

Of course a bank isn't going to give you that much, but in the DSM world, you know how rare it is to come across a 92-black on black-30k miles-excellent condition-modded right DSM.

I guess it depends on how much you like DSM's. Personally, $6.5k seems a bit low.

you be crazy. 1992 was a long time ago. ;-) maybe 6.5k in 1998 dollars. :-)

yeah, but it's still a 92, and it only blue books at like $4k at the absolute most. So he would still be getting more than it's worth, because of the mods. But he shouldn't get all of his mod money back... that's not the way it works. I think I'm gonna tell him $6.5 and see what he says. I'll tell him thats as high as I can go with what the bank will give me, and see what happens. If I'm going to spend $11k, it's going to be on a 2Gb AWD.

He'll easily get it. Finding a 1g with 30,000 miles is near impossible these days. He could probably ask more. If I came across a 92 AWD with low mileage like that and had the money I would be all over it.

It would cost the same or less to buy a 1g with a messed up engine, rebuild the engine, get a shep transmission, and mod it.

Agreed. $11.5k is way to much for a 1g. I've seen similarly modded 1g's go for $5-6k...
(granted they did have more miles but hey)

If it really is in that good of condition, then maybe $7k wouldn't be crazy, but that's only if he refuses $6.5.
