6914, Best way to connect wires for S-AFC wiring Posted by burntheblobs, Dec-29-06 12:51 PM
Hey guys, I'm kind of a newbie in terms of electrical wiring, and Im wiring my S-AFC II right now. I'm just wondering what the best way to connect the S-AFC wires with the ECU wires would be (like the rpm, throttle wires). Should I take the wires out of the connector on the ecu and combine them there, or strip some wire about 3 inches down and combine the wires there? Or something different? Thanks.

you will have to strip them in order to do it correctly. you will notice on the ground wire is very important on the install. i believe you cut one wire because the safc will modify the signal in order to make the changes necessary.

Strip and solder. Some say heat shrink, which is nice. I have no problem with using electrical tape as a wrap. Never had a problem with that combo.

heat shrink looks very clean/professional. id reccomend that if you can do it well.

Doesn't matter. Noone will see it in there. :P But yeah, strip back a little insulation, wrap the wire good and tight and fill the wrap with solder. Then tape it up nice and neat. Took me about about an hour and 1/2 with a few smoke breaks in between because my back was killing me after 10 minutes of being in that god-awful awkward position.

i'm more of a "i know it's there" type person, which is why i always heat shrink and solder all my connections. just for peace of mind.

I'm surprised I'm the first person to say this...
Sell it and buy DSMLink. You won't regret it!

I won't regret parting with $500 extra dollars when I'm tuning with 550s? I think you fail to forget that's more than a month's pay for me. Anyway, when I checked it out I found that an S-AFC had been previously installed and all the wires were already stripped for me! Now if I could just solder at ALL I'd be set! =P

SAFC is good, I've seen it run a GT35R + 1000cc injectors, probably not the best /easiest setup, but the car ran just fine, and damn fast. I would run DSMLink in a heartbeat if I had 700$ laying around though.

You can't use an SAFC for anything more than 550's. They can't compensate for that much fuel.
