My shifter is really tight. Also if you have it in neutral and you move it to either side and let it go it doesn't spring back to the middle, it just stays where you leave it. Does anyone else have this problem?

No, that is not normal. Check your shifter linkage and the levers on the tranny itself for any obstructions or problems.
