5880, If there was a way to change the gears in the transmission...? Posted by FlyinEsi, Sep-09-04 11:24 AM
If there was a way to change the gearing in the 5-spd transmission, say taller or shorter gears, would that mess up the speed of the wheels in the diff? Basically, would it effect how the front and rear wheels turn together?? Does the transmission play a roll in that, or just the gearing in the diff?

I'm working on something . . .
Just need to make sure the rear diff isn't going to get pwn3d by doing it.

We can use galant gears. I am using a galant's first gear myself.

According to Shep, the Galant 1st gear isn't worth what people think. In his words, he spent an entire race season comparing runs with and without it. On average, and without much exception, the Galant gear was about a tenth slower overall, and he said he got close to 30 runs on each in order to make his assumptions. Generally, the extra 3-4 mph ended up hindering him in terms of shift points and other things out of the hole.
I doubt for any of us that it makes a difference. It's neither here nor there to me. The only thing is that it costs more.
