I email Shepherd Racing the other day and ask if they could rebuild my transmission and they said they could do it. Which I thought was cool because the case has a hole in it and has a crack in it.

My question is how much would it cost to ship to Shepherd Racing and what do you ship it in?

What upgrades do you recommend I get?

I shipped mine in a Rubbermaid container from Target. It cost about $10. Put a flat piece of wood in the bottom about 1" thick for support. Stuff cardboard and newspaper around the tranny to keep it from banging around too much and to help keep it padded.

Once the tranny is in, put the lid on and drill about 16 holes from the lid through to the lip where it attaches to the container. Then thread really big zip ties through the holes. That keeps the lid firmly attached. Wrap some duct tape around the whole thing for added insurance and you are all set. Shipping was something like $120 from Maryland to Ohio.

He also has shipping instructions/reccomendations on the website. Also, if there is significant damage to the tranny (holes/cracks) that aren't repairable by welding, the cost will go up a bit for a replacement part just so you know. I almost had that happen to me with my cracked bell housing.

When you ask what upgrades to get...what do you want to use the tranny for? The upgrades aren't really one size fits all. Is this drag only? Daily driver? Track car/weekend car? The double synchro 2nd is generally a must but beyond that is kinda case by case.

Jeff gave very good advice. Shipping generally should be anywhere from $100 (close) to $200 (far). Md/VA rates are ~$120-$135 depending on courier.

It most likely be a track and weekend car. My first goal is to run 12s, but after that I dont know.

I got an email back saying it will cost at least 1200 because of the crack and the hole

The replacement parts will certainly bump the cost. It is worth it though. Shep does beautiful work.
