5612, Help...Master Cylender (clutch) Posted by Vandy420a, Dec-10-05 11:07 AM
Hey all,
I'm a moron and left my chilton's / haynes in D.C. and now my car's in a million pieces here in MD. Thanks for all the help on the slave cylender, install was a breeze. I'm gonna bleed it tomorrow.
question:
Where the hell is the master cylender (clutch) and how do I get to it? Do I go through the floorboard on the drivers side, or take the wheel off, or what? It was getting dark so I put it away for the night, but i spent about an hour trying to figure out how the hell i was gonna get to it..
thanks!
matt

well its kinda up in the air as to whether it was sucessful. The tranny shifted like butter , but the clutch was slipping (I backed out the bracket that connects to the pedal almost all the way.) So I put it back alot and now the clutch isnt' slipping (I don't think), but its notchy again. :shrug

How old is your clutch? It may simply need replaced too, now that you know the clutch master cylinder is good. You may need to adjust it more under the dash, but it should be somewhere near the middle.

It slipped like a bitch last night, but today its holding fine (as I adjusted it). When you all moved your pedals not to engage right off the floor, did you adjust the "clutch button", or whatever that switch is that can tell if the clutch is engaged?
Right now i have it so far out that pedal travel "stops" before it hits the floorboard, but this does prevent the clutch from egaging right off the floor...
