i owned b4 a 1993 Charade Gtti Turbo and now i am buying an eclipse GST 1997 ( can you please tell me on what i need to check and which model is better the 1996-1997) guys please help me, i know i am out of subject but please help guys i am buying the car in two days. and i love TURBO , my old charade used to push 1.6 BAR it was a hell of a car (ofcourse with full modification not stock)/ sadly i broke the engine the pistons melt down as i removed the waste gate as i wanted to race with a Subaru WRX 1998. sadly i bust up my car but guess what i won ( not on the first and second gear) :)

To answer your question, there is no real difference between the 96-99 models other than appearance. And even then, it's only the bumpers and spoiler.
The 95 model was a little different as it was the last year (and only 2G) that came with an eeprom ECU.

This website will be your best bet for any questions you might have if you need an answer quickly. In the meantime, the big things to ask about are when the timing belt was last changed (MANDATORY @ 60k miles) and checking for signs of crankwalk. (You'll have to read up in the link below for the crankwalk stuff.)
