379, Where ar the good deals on 2Gb AWD DSMs?!?!?
Posted by CopperEclipse96, Mar-30-06 01:23 PM
My god, it's impossible to find anything good. I'm looking and looking, and there is nothing.

Best right now is a red 98 with a tan interior. 6 bolt, 20g turbo, shep tranny, act clutch, and some other stuff for $13k. Test drove it and it was good, but I'm reluctant to buy a modded GSX. I wish I could find a good stock one for a decent price, but it's next to impossible. How much did everyone else pay for their 2G AWDs?

$5700 - '95 GSX-bone stock, but had some bad rust on the strut mounts. 130,000 miles, bought from a used car dealer.

$2900 - '95 Talon AWD - Also bone stock. Needed a new altenator, and that's it. 170,000 miles, bought privately.

Both were bought in MA. There seems to be a ton of AWD 2g's being bought and sold in NE. Maybe you are just in the wrong part of the country.

Haha.

Yeah deals come along every once in a while, but it also greatly depends on your location. I got a 95 with 118k miles, some mods, 2nd owner, excelent condtion for only 4500. Damn thing came with volks too.

Nice deal. I got mine for $2250 (a year and a half ago) with a bad rod bearing and 18" Chromers on it. Gave me the excuse to throw a 6 bolt in it and sell the rims for extra coin.

Theres nothing wrong with it, paint motor, interior everything is in excellent shape, it even passed California smog. I got a good deal beacause the guy wasnt driving it and it was in storage, and he was still paying insurance and loan payments on it and needed to get rid of it.

97 GSX $11,500 45K Miles slightly modded, custom paint, needed a little TLC, ran great when I wrecked it
98 GSX $9,000 75K Miles built 7 bolt, moderate mods, needs a little TLC, running pretty good now.

Don't. If you are lucky whoever upgraded it knew what they were doing, but more often than not is was some retard and they are trying to sell their problems. You will never know until things break or you start taking it apart and checking their work.

Agreed! Unless you personally knew the previous owner (or it was John Shepherd), I would never buy a modded DSM. If you are still looking, I would start looking nationally, if there really is nothing in your area. Like I said, there are a good number of 2g's being sold around my area (New England) all the time. Check out local DSM forums (like newengdsm.org) for their for sale sections. You are bound to find something, and worse comes to worse you pay to have it shipped, or you take the flight out and drive it back. Cars from Florida, etc, really are the best, due to the fact that they don't know what snow is!

don't be in a hurry w/ anything car related, especially a car purchase. I knew I wanted a VR4 like 5 years ago but they were to much $ and I always randomly searching for them from time to time but once the 2gnt was sold I drove my moms old car until I found a good deal on one. You got to be willing to travel to find one to. I got lucky and only drove about 1 or 2 to get mine. Matt took the train to north carolina, from maryland, to pick up his RX-7.

here you go. They're asking too much, imo. I'd give them 10k for it.

I thought that one was long gone. Oh well, carry on.

If you can in anyway afford it, here is a car I would absolutly love to buy: http://tinyurl.com/ozy4t

I personally know the owner and he is a 100% stand up guy. He has a '92 RWD Talon formally owned by David Buscher (which is kick ass btw) and has been building and racing these cars for a number of years. When he modieifes cars, he does them 100% the right way putting performance ahead of cost. This might be too much for you, but figured I would throw this out there anyways.

Well...if you want to be really specific...

The best of the 2ga's are early build '95's. Almost all came with EPROM's and vented rear rotors. Nothing special about the '96 (except the Spyder). 2gb's had a few better options (especially the black interior) and the exterior differences as mentioned (and mud guards behind the tires). 99's also came with white face gauges. Another note is that of crankwalk. It seems that '97 was the worst year for it. The '98-'99's got the 3 piece bearings, or the 'fix', so cw is less common after '97. '95's also seem to see cw less than '96-'97. Also, 2ga's have the cam angle sensor behind the intake cam gear, where as the 2gb's have it 1g style, at the end to the cam. 2ga's also came with a rust protector, while 2gb's did not. Finally (I think), 2ga's and 2gb's have different gear ratios, which is why you can't use a 2ga transfer case on a 2gb transmission, and vice versa. That should be it though.
