well ive been offered an excellent deal and dont know what to do so im gonna bring it to you 4g63 guys.
The car is a 96 GSX missing passanger seat. Everything else is stock except 3inch exhaust. Car does not run and owner doesnt know why? leather interior 130,000 miles , automatic transmission (that sucks) but 4wd. i can get this car now for 1,500 bucks? price seems like a dream, my question is what are we talking here, what would you do with same option? is it worth it say under the wose condition that i need to replace motor? guy claims the tranny was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago and car has been sitting for a year. thanks for any input

The only way I were to buy it is to part it out.. because it's an automatic and I couldn't stand to have one. Yeah you can do the swap, so I guess if you have the time and money to rebuild an engine(if that's what's wrong) and do the swap(if you can't stand auto's like myself), then go for it.

But also if you find out what's wrong with it, fix it, and sell it, you could make some fast cash.

I could put up with an automatic. I have a question for the previous person who posted. Have you ever driven an F1 or a Ferrari? Paddle shifting my friend. And there's a new product out that accommodates this with this very car. Rev to the sky, shift when you want, and do it quicker than a manual.

Back to the subject, if I were you, I'd do a ton of investagation on the car. See what's wrong with it. When you eliminate certain things, you can normally point your finger to something. I'd at least see what it needs done before hopping on anything.

If you assume it needs a rebuild, then the price isn't a dream at all. What I'm saying is don't buy it unless you know what you need to fix it. The biggest danger in buying a car like this is that you are buying it without knowing how it runs...sounds stupid but bear with me. The fix could be as simple as a 25 cent fuse, but once you get it running you could find the rear main is leaking, the transmission grinds, and the turbo is junk. Once you find out the other problems its too late, the car is yours.

I'm going to say that this was someone's former race car (race as in at least moderately modified). I don't see any other reason why the car would be stock with a 3" exhaust. Most near stock cars go with a 2.5". My guess is that the car was parted out and returned to stock. I agree though, don't go into this unless you know exactly wht is wrong with it.

so basically what you guys are saying is a 2g gsx shell is not worth 1500 bucks? because when it comes down to it like you mentioned if it needs a new turbo, engine and tranny so be it but the rest is not worth 1500? i was just wondering cause i dont mind putting the money into it so long as its worth it. i guess in the long run if i pput a new motor, tranny and turbo into it with time and money im looking at another 3500-4grand easy so i can buy one for around that price with nothing wrong
thanks for the input

Have you tried to start it? It could just need a starter.. $100, sell it, gain $4-7k.. that's in a perfect world of course, but go check it out fully and then decide.

Sage advice.

Find out what will need to be done to get it running again before you make that offer. Otherwise, ask yourself what you want to pay for 3/4 of a full leather interior and some power windows, because that's what you want your "loss" to be on the shell.

You might as well figure out how much it would run you to get a running longblock to drop into the car. That's going to be the high end of what this project could potentially set you back. And that doesn't even account for electrical issues.

Maybe he would let you poke around with the car a bit and try to trouble shoot it? If you think it's that good of a deal, maybe you could offer to see about getting it running so he can sell it, and get something in writing that he pays you something like a grand if it sells for more than $2500. :shrug
