i agree with that post, and second that in addition to that, add that a lot of the dsm guys are quite arrogant and just simply not pleasant to be around. not all, but a lot. i do find that 2gnters are much nicer all around people.
that is from my experience anyway. good post though jeff.

Legal disclaimer: What follows is in no way confrontational. I promise.
His post had nothing to do about who is nice and who isn't. He made a point about ignorance on the part of people in the community. While your point is well taken, it has no bearing on the topic at hand.
I agree completely with his observations not only about the DSM community but about the car community in general. Living in Rockville, you see one kid after another who knows nothing about their car, yet spends dollar after dollar on it modding it entirely incorrectly. They have enough $ to fix all the stuff that inevitably breaks, so the problem perpetuates itself. With DSM's, since they are so cheap, it is a problem that hits even harder since any kid with $2k can grab one and think he can make a 10 second monster out of some hose clamps and water wetter. when he blows it up, and then steals the parts from another working DSM to fix it, he has effectively kileld two cars, that most likely will make their way to the junkyard.
It's just very sad to see.

understood and none taken. i misworded my post. i was just making a comment unnrelated to what he said, but related to DSMers.
and i think why a lot of what jeffs post states occurs, is because its easy and inexpensive to find a 1g, put on a boost controller and a few bolt ons, and have a fast car. with that, its easy for kids who really have no idea what they are doing to do just that.

Well said. Let's just hope there are people out there to help the ignorant. I know I had someone teaching me with their head firmly oriented away from the ass. I think that's why the car is running so well now.
BAM!

I find DSM'ers are alot easier to be around than other communities, but I still think you can't kill youreself everytime you see a shitty DSM. Its not worth getting stressed over, you just gotta be happy knowing yours kicks ass, and so do most of the ones around you....

I haven't read the post Jeff made yet but judging by the comments you guys have made, I'd like to say this. The DSM community on average is a COMMUNITY. we all help out one another even if we're competing against one another. Most other "communities" basically just brag about what they have done or whatever and could give a shit less about the "little guy". In the past 5yrs, between here and NEDSM, I've learned SO much and have been helped by countless people with countless things. I want to say thank you to you all. You know who you are. ;) Ok, I'll go read that post now. :)

in all honesty i never thought a car community could be so close as that of DSM'ers. I am on many forums and for the most part you always hear about how the DSM'ers hang out while others go on without experincing the joy of auto enthusism as a group. I must say when viewing the crowds at the s/o i realized more people wanted to help each other than brag about themselves and put others down in the process. I am only bothered by the select few who look at the possesion of an object as a means to judge an individual. This is true in the local community that i reside. Members of the DSM community feel that my car is inferior to their factory turbo cars mearly because they have mitsu engines. Then there are people like you jeff who look out for the betterment of the community even though the facts remain, you can't help everyone. I know you would love to teach everyone the way to properly modify the 1g that we all love as the big modest brother. But like alot of people have said, no need to stress over issues you cannot control.
my car will sound like, bumbabumbubavrooooooooooooooomrooooooooahhhhhhhhhhhhh, kishhhhhh www.dsmregistry.com/detail.php?carid=643 VW= The joy of driving DSM= The frustration of fixing

Both.
That person just represents a growing number of idiots claiming to be DSMers. That is all. You know how easy it is to swap a turbo, fuel system, and intercooler into another car? Just Grr... I wish I met him before he went and paid for that shit.
Oh well.
I will be writing another thread soon about a rant of mine concerning DSMs. It won't be posted on Tuners though because they couldn't give a shit.
And for the record I don't just love 1st gens. I am a huge 2g fan too. Did you see my sig on tuners? :) (Shhh)

ok, I finally got to read it and what I'd like to know is where exactly on the internet he got this info??? There are quite a few DSM related forums with knowledgablepeople. I mean even the people at tooners wouldn't have given him that kind of info. Even if there's some idiot that says, "yeah it'll work..." there'd be 10 others telling him the truth. So is the red GST for sale yet? So what was the deal with the red car? Broken TB? Why else would someone rape a car that still had a good turbo???

The red 90 has a hole in the block. Pretty amazing considering it was bone stock. It has a small dent on the passenger door and some nasty paint chips on the front of the car.
I am going to see if I can buy the car tomorrow. I will offer $200 and see what the guy says.

I totally agree, it reminds me of the kid that had a prbe and his brother told him to put water in his gas to clean the carbon out and he filled his tank with water and blew his engine. He didn't know any better and was taken advantage of.
Oh and jeff, I'll sell you a 95 TSI AWD AT, it'll be easy to ship too since its in two pieces ;)

Find me a real one in good shape for less than $4,000 in the Maryland area and I will make you an honorary moderator :) Especially if it is red.
Edit: Actually I really can't do that, but I do need to find one of those cars if anyone knows of any for sale.

HMNN i cant read Jeff's post because i refuse to log into the forum, i hate tunerz, but i can tell where this has been going.
I really dont think it have anything to do with DSM's, its all cars or the maturity level of the people who have them. I have an Antique Mopar so i tend to spend more time at cruise nights with people old enough to be my father. I dont car how much you think you know, there is so much more to learn, you just need to open your mind. The atmosphere is so different just because it is a community of people who respect the amount of work it takes to keep our past on the road for the next generation to learn from. Yes different groups give each other a hard time like ford-chevy rivals but even then the jabs are very light hearted. The true DSM will be a part of our past real soon considering we are already 10 year+ past the separation of Chry/mitsu.
With imports, many owners are young, inexperienced or just plain ignorant as jeff has stated i am sure. DSM's make this easier since the 4g motor is so easy to build upon generally speaking. Honda's have become the same way with all the support available for them. I think the 1g is going to drive in the direction of the "antiques mentality" within the next 5 years. Mostly because the cars are getting hard to find in good shape and even rarity of certain models. Pretty soon if you want a clean 1g you are going to have to go through the whole car and bring it back up to clean shape. Or find someone who has done it already, find a car that has been sitting in a garage ect, you get my point. The Neons' and other cars i think will just continue to be a thorn in the side till many people grow up, but you have that will many newer cars, mustangs, The GTO, F-Bodies.
I realy dont get too concerned with the conflicts associated with that crap. I would liek to see the gap between antiques and the more experienced imports to close a little. It would never be perfect because many of the old schoolers still beleive to buy american (even if american means made in Mexico).
Cars area hobby, an art no matter what you choose it all requires work and personal creativity. If these little imature fucktards would spend more time learning about whatthey doing and different ways to do it, sharing things they have tried, the import world would not be looked down upon by the law and other areas of the automotive hobby.
I will never forget the crappy little 89ish CRX that was more colors than a graffiti wall rev its little shit box motor against my SuperBee a month ago. My Bee is not stealth at all, the body twitches with the lope, what the fuc& would these idiots think not to mention they were in a turn lane...lol
If i drifted off subject i am sorry

I agree with jeff on this alot. Somewhat example of how I used to be, when I bought my first 1g, i was 16, i had previously owned a 2gnt, I was never the epitamy of someone who throws on parts and expects it to go, but I really didn't know much about anything related to the 4g63, i'm 17 now, be 18 in jan and managed to go from a factory 1g to a 12.7@110 pump gas 16g car, my friend just got a gst and hes like total ricer, he tryed to make me install a boost controller before he even had a boost gauge ! i wouldnt do it, so he did it himself, and the car ran like crap, didnt know why, i hook up my boost gauge, he was running 30+psi on 100% stock t25 crap...its just so easy to try to go fast and blow up these discontinued cars. its sad to see that soon there wont be many 1g's at all...2g's are next.

I made another reply:
Originally posted by Jeff on DSMtuners.com No, see that is the entire point. That kind of attitude is exactly what I am talking about. I am sick of seeing these cars going to the junkyard. DSMs belong on the road and track raising hell, not rusting in a pile of rubbish in the middle of some muddy fenced-in field. The more uninformed assholes there are out there, the more these cars are being destroyed. Pretty soon seeing a DSM on the road will be a rare occurance and that scares me. I grew up having these cars around and they not only taught me how to properly work on cars, but also a lot about life. I have life-long friends now because of DSMs and I can't imagine these cars that have meant so much to me be destroyed by some moron who has no respect for what these cars mean to so many people.
The same goes for the assholes out there that buy perfectly good DSMs, then chop them up and sell the parts on Ebay. These people are DESTROYING our hobby and a huge part of our life every single day. It is horrible to imagine and it makes me sick. Do a search on ebay for "Talon" and see how many destroyed cars there are. People saying stuff like "We buy running cars and chop them up so you know everything will work!" Or "we part out ALL our cars no matter the condition!" That shit kills me every time I read it. Is there nothing that can be done about this? Destroying people's pastime for a buck. Fuck that.
