its prob in the wrong section, but i'm almost positive the brake system for both cars is diff.

anyways

i'm about to upgrade my front brakes, and I was curious about lifting up the entire car with jackstands. Supposedly, you're supposed to start the car to bleed the brakes, and have someone push the pedal in (Chiltons), but I thought you weren't supposed to open the doors/trunk on a unibody when it was jacked up?

What's the safest/best way to do this w/o using a lift?

i do it all the time, dont think it is a big deal. :shrug ;-) at least it hasnt been yet.

It is fine to open the doors and trunk and whatever. Been doing it for 5 years now with no problems.

Yep, you can jack stand the whole car and run the engine. As an extra precaution, throw the stock wheels under the frame so if for some one in a million reason the car does fall, it lands on a wheel (from a tiny distance) and not concrete or asphalt. Better to lose a set of wheels than an entire car.

BTW Jeff and I have done this many times with no issues. Or even better, throw the wheels on and tighten two lug nuts down on the wheels you aren't using to bleed at that moment. That may be safest overall.

thanks! any other tips about bleeding them? I'm thinking its going to be pretty simple (famous last words) :D

the body does shift when its in the air but not to where itll do anything.
BLEEDING TIP
NEVER LET GO OF THE PEDEL WHEN THE BLEADER SCREW IS LOOSE, keep the pedal compressed if you let off the pedal while the bleader screw is loose, it'll actually suck in air, defeating the purpose
