2359, Can i cut out this part of the car...

Im tryin to lose as much weight as possible without make the car unsafe to drive. I want to cut out the areas circled in yellow that the rear seat belts mount and the part that goes between the 2 area. Is is ok the cut those parts out or will it hurt the structural integrity of the car... Someone let me know. I figure its not very structural since its only really sheet metal and its spot welded to the car... I dunno...

That piece is "ribbed" for your driving pleasure, and very structural. Without it, stress from the struts will rip the seams around it apart. Your best bet, try jenny craig and leave the piece.

Yeah you need to leave that. Look elsewhere for weight savings.

I failed to mention I have a 8 point weld in cage going into the car soon. I plan on adding some bracing between the strut towers too. With that in the car would that piece still be needed? My cage is being made by the guys who made this cage. http://www.rmdsm.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4447

im still thinking cutting out structural elements from a car is NOT a good idea, cage or not. i dont think a cage can take the place of what you would be taking out, just my .02

Don't do it. I agree /\ /\. It's like what, 20lbs, if that? If I were you I'd start running miles and do a ton of situps.

Is that a fat joke? lol jk Im just adding a lot of weight to the car with roll cage and other misc things. So Im just tryin to figure out how to save a little weight to keep it down.

Im thinking about a CF or fiberglass hatch and either plexiglass or something like that for the rear window and small side windows.

Those are much safer. Stay away from structural things.
