2262, What do you guys think this 1G is capable of? Posted by BRU_ce, Apr-19-05 11:21 AM
Since that other TSi AWD deal fell through, I have come across a couple more possible trades. The one I'm really interested in is a 1992 Talon TSi AWD with the following mods:
Buschur 16G Turbo (ported) 2.5" Buschur downpipe 2.5" straight pipe 2.5" Catco high flow catalytic converter (not installed) 2.5" Buschur cat-back system Walboro 255LPH Fuel pump (not installed) (stock pump rewired) Ported EVO III exhaust manifold Hallman manual boost controller (set at 16 psi) Turbo XS Type-S BOV Buschur 2.5" Upper IC piping 3" PVC Intake with K&N filter and hacked air can ACT2600 Clutch kit (less than 1000 miles) 8.5mm Magnacor wires Autometer Boost gauge Autometer A/F gauge
Now, with all that it should be a nice stage 1 setup pulling low 13s, right? Well... this guy ran it at the track and ran a 14.6
Do you think this is just due to mis-tuning? He doesn't have any loggers or fuel management installed at all, by the way.
Do you think I could turn this car into what it should be -- a low 13 second car -- with proper tuning?

Get a AFC and alogger. You should run 13's rather easy......Unless you are just a horrible driver.

Like Remy says. Without logging ability, he is just guessing blindly as to how well it's running. That turbo tuned should put you into the 12's easily (with a skilled driver and a FMIC). Without at minimum a pocketlogger to view knock counts, it won't run for shit. I would be scared that he has driven the car that hard for that long without proper tuning software as well.
Also, is the BOV recirculated into the intake pipe? If he is venting to the atmosphere, kill him in the face.
What is he asking?
Edit: Fuck me, he doesn't even have an SAFC? He just turned the boost up to 16 psi on a 16g and is running stock fuel? Run away man, the car has been fucked over by another cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit. (Not that bad but bigger mods and stock fuel? Come on.)

Holy Crap! I think I heard the same phrase at work today...

LMAO! Yeah I don't think he's very bright... I asked him to do a compression test tonight and e-mail me the results.
Is good compression indicative of an otherwise fairly healthy engine?
(something I know you're going to flip out over, he says he's been using 87 octane on it because it seems to run better)
edit: check out this thread he started... his name is 227kgsx http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128634

So... should I try to save this poor 1G from him, tune it right and nurse it back to health?

He sent me the compression numbers.
Cylinder 1: 130, Cylinder 2: 135, Cylinder 3: 150, Cylinder 4: 150
How does that sound?

DSM abuse should be a felony.
Buy the car and rebuild the engine. That engine is fucked. Buy it for $1000 or less or walk away.

Terrible.
130 is just above the service limit. And you should never have more than 10 psi difference in any one cylinder. He has two with 20 psi difference.
Like Jeff said, walk if he charges anything more than $1000. And that guy is an asshole for treating his car that way. 87 octane on and FI car? Take a crowbar and bash his kneecaps in.
For anyone wondering, this may be the WORST offense of mis-modding I have ever come across. This is atrocious and makes me sick to my stomach.

lol. You guys are the funnee. I'll bet those compression numbers aren't even accurate. If he doesn't know enough to have some sort of fuel control, does he know how to read a compression guage? :rolleyes haha.

Assume the engine is dead, pay accordingly. $500-1000.
If the engine isn't dead, and you add $500 more in supporting mods, it'll run 13's.

My favorite part is how he raised the boost and dropped the octane. A friend of mine in GA had a GST which eventually fell apart...now that I know more of what I'm talking about I realize it's because he did almost the same thing. Bigger turbo, more boost, no fuel support or supporting mods :rolleyes

OK, I told him I'm not taking it unless he gives me $900 for a rebuild. Basically, I'm not getting it.

be patient, you'll find one eventually thats perfect for you- i bought my 90 GSX from a 55 year old pilot in upstate CT that used it to drive to the NYC airports and back. It had about 80k on the engine, and a fried ECU- i got it for $1200, ecu for another 85- so i got the car for figure 1300. Damn i miss it...

turbododges from the 1980s run quite well on 87 octane.... and YES that is the recommended octane for 'em.
