A friend wants to know so I told him I'd make a post here and see what you guys say.

He isn't loooking to run 10's or run 30psi of boost. He really has no goals except the car is going to be a show var with a lot og GO!.

He wants to do more bottom end stuff and a big turbo/ AEM EMS / FMIC and so on.

What would you guys suggest beside the basic rebuild kit ie: waterpump, gasket kit, bearings yadda yadda.

ok forget it I found a good site by searching. lol

But any other iput would be helpful

He just doesn't have and goals for it really.. I asked him what he wanted to do with it and it's mainly going to be a show car. But he wants to put money into the motor as well.

BTW Its an 95' AWD Talon. Hes got a huge systems and lambo doors and lights and all the ricer shit so I was actually surprised to hear he wants to do the motor. :)

If he has a huge system and lambo doors, just tell him to save the money on engine work. He'd be better off throwing it in the trash.

I do not at all say this to be a dick, but a show car is rarely driven if at all so engine work which would never ever be seen is a waste. Why build the bottom end tyo have it sit all year. If he drove it, he'd never be able to keep it clean enough to show it.

The stuff your friend lists kinda kills the whole $5k he's spending. Between the manifold, turbo, AEM EMS, and FMIC, I'd say that's around $3500 give or take. Also have to include tuning, supporting mods, and maybe installation. Not to be a hater to show-car guys, but the most I know usually end up paying people to do stuff for them. They lack the will to learn and/or work on the cars themselves. In relation to myself, I'd rather rip an engine apart any day to painting a car (thats where my pride dies out)

As to a showcar with a lot of "go" if its a true showcar, then yeah, it wont be driven a whole lot, and HybriDSM is right, he should save the money for something else.

If he's doing like a body-kit, lights, paint job, lambo doors, interior, sound system and all the goodies, and wants to drive it for like a weekend cruiser, then he should rethink what he's doing. It still won't be driven as much, but the fact that you take a showcar onto a regular street opens up the gateway to getting hit by debris, hitting potholes, ripping body kits off, scratching paint and so on. So really, if he wants a lot of "GO" where is he going to go? I have a local cruise night in my area, which is mainly muscle cars, and living in New England alone has gotten me away from ever wanting a seriously lowered car, or a bodykit.

Also check out that Super Street Celica in a recent issue. Totally rebuilt from the ground up even has a TURBO on it, but only pushes 240HP! It's mainly ALL SHOW and could NEVER GO, LOL

I still don't understand why people make the turbo cars into show cars. Why not an NT? There are thousands upon thousands more NT cars to destroy. Why waste a turbo model?

"I" told him i wouldn't waste my money on a show car :P so why bother with the motor n all? :shrug He thinks it's important to be fast too. I mean he did own a awd dsm for 3 years before turning it into a ricerocket :P so he enjoys the speed for sure. I was asking him last night and NOW he would like to be able to goto the track an kill mustangs all night :rolleyes

I'm still down with the "Buy and Evo" option :p

So let's get this straight. He has a 500 pound sound system (whatever the weight is, it is very heavy) and he has lambo doors, but now wants a track car?

This isn't a fairytale movie where he gets to have everything under the sun. You don't have 11 second cars with custom sub enclosures. You don't have show cars with oil all over the engine bay from when you blew the dipstick out of the tube at the track. When he starts throwing around $5k, it becomes a fork in the road proposition. Pick one path and take it to the end. With what he has done now, he'd never win any shows with a track driven car. With $5k under the hood, he'd get pissed that he has $5k in stereo and doors weighing him down and slowing him to a crawl down the 1/4 mile.

I'm very confused. $5k in engine work means you are looking to run really fast times. It's enough to get people deep into the 11's and beyond, so I am just having a hard time figuring out what he even wants to do. Does he even know for sure what he wants?

well if he did the mods to make his car run 11's if he didn't have the system (only substantial weight addition) and assuming its 500lbs thats about .5 seconds slower than if he didn't have it and even if it slowed him down a full second it would still run 12's(and hell even a mid 13 second car is still more fun than a 15 second car) Now a show car running 12's would be nice, and that would be plenty to smoke most na mustangs with bolt ons and doing it with a show car would be funny imo... if he has the money to blow and drives the car even 2 weekends a month it would be fun as shit imo...

tell him to take his 5K and start a new project. Find a decent shape 1G for 2 grand and dump 3k in it...
Then he can have the best of both worlds...
