1999, Found a 1g for sale near me, cheap thinking about buying...

I've been looking for a daily driver car just to get me around for awhile now. I've been without a car for over a year now. I found this 1g for sale on ebay nearby me. Just wanted to get anyones opinion on it and what to look out for if I do go consider looking at it. I'd prefer to not have to fix a lot of shit on it (always a gamble).

So take a look if you want...

I don't really care how the car looks, I just want something to get me around...and owning a turbo 1g = too many problems I do not want to deal with.

It's not too bad. As long as it doesn't have too many issues, the price is decent.
You can pick up a set of stock rims in average shape for cheap. I've seen rough ones given away.

IMO, that's a big misconception. I believe the real reason why turbo DSMs are considered so "unreliable" is because they are cheap and there are a lot of morons out there.

In my search for an AWD 1G, I found people who:

*used 87 octane on 17 PSI (Sioux City)
*boosted way too high on stock fuel system (Maryland)
*Had NO AIR FILTER AT ALL, vented BOV, "EVO" swap (Tampa)
*and finally another lady that used 87 octane (Orlando)

So, I believe that with half decent maintenance, a turbo DSM will have a very, very long, healthy life. If you want a reliable daily driver, just get a stock turbo 1G and leave it stock!

Oh, and when I say "leave it stock" I actually mean, at least do the free mods and get a decent 2.5" turboback imo.

You get a nice power increase with none of the reliability issues :D

Butt dyno on my friend's TSi AWD came in at a solid "Holy crap!" on each one of 3 consecutive runs as far as those mods are concerned, heh.

Not to totally change the subject, but my current job situation changed, and I'm going to be working at a garage in town for decent money. No STi unless I win the lottery or steal one.

I was thinking about a 1G AWD and leaving it stock. Yea, the 2G is my racer, the 1G will be the winter beater. Same engine, same shit to deal with, AWD for winters, cheap, and hopefully cheaper on insurance. What do you guys think?

And NO, the AWD will NOT become the Street Racer, my GS-T must meet her destiny!

If thats what you want (and it sounds like it is) then go for it. AWD is always good for the snow anyways. as long as you dont mod it, keep up with the maintenance of it, theres no reason why you cant have a good running 1g.
