I turn into work at 7:45 this morning after a 1.5 hour commute and I hear a "pop" and my stearing gets squirrely (sp?). I figured the new pass side axle had fallen out...get the car on a lift after waiting 3.5 hours for AAA and a tow truck (stupid asshole, couldn't find the place even after detailed 1:1 directions with everything short of satellite imagry)--and its an easy place to find--

long story short, a lower ball joint nut popped off, unloading the suspension and sending the car into extreme toe-in. The motion of a 10mph roll to a stop was enough to tear apart the CV boot on my new axle as well...and I leave for MO tomorrow x(


on another note, owner of the garage the car is at's son is trying to sell a 1g TSI AWD with new paint/interior, but the motor's out with a rod thrown. 150k. How much do you think its worth? He wants a grand...

Sorry to hear about the problems. I would need to see pictures of the 1g to really be able to give a good estimate, but $1,000 seems to be ok if the body is in really good shape.

I'm thinking seriously about buying it, esp. b/c the tranny and engine are already out of the car. It would be stupid easy to send the tranny off to shep or team RIP, have the engine built /installed at the shop OR take it somewhere else and move the car myself. Unfortunately I think he's pretty firm at $1k. He said "i can sell it to some kid for $6k if I build it back and put it back together", which is bogus, but it worries me that he thinks its worth so much.

he claims to have "re-built" the tranny already, but upon further questioning he didn't give me specifics, so I think he just took it apart, looked at it, and put it back together because "there's nothign really to replace--the gears are all metal" :scratch

not sure what to make of that...besides that the tranny hasnt' been rebuilt. He did paint it red, which rates the tranny at 600 WHP I think. :)

we'll see, I'll keep you all posted / take some pics when I can. Its either that or a bike...

well I looked at the 1g tonight...the "redone interior" is pretty shabby inside, and the car, although painted, has overspray from a couple other cars on top and is covered in shit. It would come with a 3" thermal exhaust, FIPK, greddy catch can (that would make its way to my 2g) strut bar, and other random crap. The pass door is solid, but the driver feels wobbly and the handle is on its way out as well.

I'm pretty torn...$1k seems like alot but I really like it. It blue books for about 2k, so I guess 1k for a non-running car isn't that bad...

I think i'm gonna get it, I Just have to figure out how with being gone at OBC and all...

offer 650 and go from there, never EVER give full asking price. tsk tsk. ;-)
