im thinking about getting a second car for when my 2g is down, i might be crazy however im looking to get a 1g turbo model. my question is without searching all night is this a bad idea or not. i dont plan on going any further than rims, exhaust, and maybe intake on the 1g id like to keep it as an everyday driver, something to play with. my questions are, is this a mistake? how hard is the 4g63 to work on compared to the 420a and is the motor like the 420a an interference motor?? answers to these questions should help me make my decision thanks in advance

If it is going to be an "everyday driver", I wouldn't go with an 11-year-old or older turbo DSM.

agreed. BUT---both engines are very similar to work on, they both have their similarities and differences. Just expect the 1g to be down more than the 2g (unless you're 2gnt turbo)

Based on your picture, I'd say don't buy one.

They are old cars now and pretty much will need some significant maintenance. If you only want to do "rims, intake and exhaust", just find another platform. These cars need TLC, and I honestly think that if you don't have any background whatsoever in this platform, and you're not looking for much beyond a sporty car to daily drive, there are much better and more fitting cars for you.

If you are willing to put in some time and effort (searching and researching, and learning about the car), perhaps it might be an OK idea but it sounds like you're looking for something hands off and easy to work with.

thanks guys i guess that will help me make my decision, i guess im not getting a 1g, i plan on going turbo this fall and up until now my car has been good to me, but i know once i go turbo its not gonna be a work car ne more so i was just looking to get something else that i can drive and not mess with. always liked the 1g but didnt know much about them, but atleast i know now it would be a bad idea as i figured. thanx again

The 1g is not a bad car at all (that's the last thing you should think). Just be realistic about it. A 14 year old car won't be like getting a 5 year old Celica or something. Age is a killer.

A second car in my opinion (ive had a few crazy ones) should pretty much be something you HATE so you really don't modify it.

I've thought about a 92-95 Civic 2dr as a daily driver. Why? Civics get GREAT gas mileage, they are common and fairly cheap, not to mention insurance is cheap, and I hate them with a passion. My mom had a 95 Civic 2dr, cd player, A/C, automatic, not a street racer, but a good car to drive. Daily driver means enough HP to cut off a soccer mommy on ur way to work, spending less of your "modify the race car money" on gas for it, cheap insurance, and easy maintenance. Civics may be old, kinda, but there is so much engine bay space to get to parts and they are pretty cheap to replace things.

A few words of advice I've recived about daily drivers...

1) Cannot cost more than your race car
2) Insurance must be less (turbo = red flag at the insur. comp.)
3) Gas mileage
4) CAN NOT be modified, nor give u the desire to modify it (ebay intake and fart-can muffler and cheap short shifters are OK)
5) Reliable and dependable
