1351, Torn on a 1g AWD

I have narrowed down a selection of 1g AWD's
I ended up selling my 420a turbo kit for 1600 dollars so I have a little bit of cash on hand.

First option is a guy locally has a 90 black gsx that is missing the head and turbo setup and needs a rebuild for 250 bucks. I was thinking I could make it a hellacious project and take my time and have some fun with it and further my knowledge of engine building and cars in general.

Second there is a guy in Kentucky that has a 91 talon tsi AWD with a bad turbo and bad clutch he's askin 900 dollars for it. I'm sure I could talk him down a wee bit. only problem is transporting it. My friend has a enclosed trailor and he would prob be willing to pick it up but gas would rape me.

I am leaning towards the local 90 gsx just because it's local and it just sounds like something I've wanted to do for a while.

Comments? Suggestions?

$250???? :whoa
What kind of shape is the rest of the car in? Did he mention what kind of condition the drivetrain is in? If you have the time, money and are willing to put the wrench time in, that could be a very sweet deal. Hell, rolling chassis' go for twice that.

He said it has a dent on the door and fender. and the paint is faded but who cares really. Transmission and drivetrain is in good shape and he said the interior is gutted, but he has all the pieces ( I would probably strip it down anyays. I am trying to get ahold of the guy who is selling it with little luck. It's posted on carolinadsm.

If the 90 has the original tranny, transfer case, and rear end, it is not in good shape. Any car that is that cheap will need a lot of work to get back on the road, even if it "only needs a head, turbo, etc." There is always more.

Look at spending a little more money up front to save headaches later down the road.

However, if it does have a good block, tranny, t-case, and rear end, the parts off this car will be worth much more than $250. Even if you get this, and just use it as a parts car, you can't go wrong. Although you would really need to get another 90, since they have many 'unique' parts.
