13201, Have 420A now have 4G63 Now What?

Hey everyone!

I happened upon a great deal on a 99 GSX. It's stock turbo with a fully rebuilt engine (the new engine has 11 miles on it). (the mileage on the automatic tranny is 98K)

Anyways, so my question is this, is there anything on my 420A that I should put on the 4G63? Here is what I have:

-T3/T4 Turbo .60 AR with Internal wastegate set to 8PSI (brand new)
-Walbro 255 pump
-Vortech FMU 8:1
-Vortech Air Bleed Valve
-Turbosmart Fuel Cut Defender
-Manual Boost Controller
-Digital A/F & Boost Gauge
-FMIC
-Greddy BOV

If nothing off the 420A will fit or work to add improvement that's fine. What can I do to the stock 4G63 without having to do any hardcore tuning?

Thanks once again to everyone at 2GNT.com!

Thanks that's exactly what I was searching for! :)

(I think sometimes people that suggest "search the forums" don't realize that you don't get back in the results what you are searching for unless the terms you search with are exactly the right ones...so again I thank you!)

Not a problem, I know there are some cheap mods (can't remember if there listed in there) about swapping used 1g and 2g parts because of certain generations did things better/worse. I got a 4g63 book hiding somewhere. If I find it I'll post some notes up for ya.

As for using stuff off of your 2gnt for your 4g63, you can use the turbo if you wish to purchase a new exhaust mani, you can use the Wally 255 but you will need an aftermarket AFPR and preferably a rewire kit, and the FMIC you can use but the IC piping will be different so you will need to purchase that if you wish to use your existing FMIC... Now on to swap mods, the 1st gen 6bolt turbo cams are a pretty hefty upgrade for the 2g 7bolt, also the 60mm stock turbo TB is an upgrade over the 7bolt 55mm, and the 16g turbo on the 1g 6bolt is a pretty decent upgrade over the dinky t25 that comes stock on the 2g's, and the 1g bypass valve/BOV holds up so much better than that plastic POS that comes on the 2g... I have all of those things, minus the BOV, in pretty fair shape, and a BIG16g turbo, that is a good step up from the stock 1g turbo, that needs to be rebuilt, if you would be interested, just PM me. Everything is a direct swap and requires no tuning... Though a SAFC wouldnt be a bad thing to have to be able to tweek alittle to get it solid!

This for sure great post but to add a few things you can use the A/F and boost gauge along with the greddy bov just make sure you have the recirculation hocked up or it will throw off you a/f and run real doggy. You can also us the boost controller as well.

Your first GSX, I can't wait till I have mine. I'm being super picky trying to find a black on black... at any rate, these guys have answered you completely, if I could add one small thing. Buy DSM link! you will need it before too long I promise.

Realize it's old thread, but more info doesn't hurt.

DSMs never came factory with a 16g, they either had the 14b or a 13g if it was a auto. The 1g BOV is great, but recommend either crushing it or doing the dodge garage mod if you plan to run over 17psi, though you have a GReddy BOV one so why change it? Just get new IC piping. A A/F gauge is pretty useless with the factory narrowband other than a light show, better to upgrade to a Wideband if you're going to have that gauge, plus you will need a wideband to do any real tuning.

Agreed you better keep the BOV recirculating unless either A) You're running a GM Blow through MAF or B) are running Speed Density with a MAP Sensor. Venting to Atmosphere incorrectly can result in the car running rich, poorly, or worse you flood your engine when you blow off and don't apply the gas..say when you are coming down a highway offramp, brakes don't work too well when the engine is off.

Being that he has a 99, he would need to find a 95 Eprom ECU to run DSMlink, however the 98/99 cars have flashable ECUs just like the Evos and here's the thread about it http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tuning-engine-management/338754-first-flashed-dsm-ecu-98-99-flashing-faq.html

Since it's a auto, never race/boost with overdrive on, you will destroy those clutchpacks in no time then be wondering why your car doesn't move.

As for the idea of swapping 1G Cams into your 2g...

From DSMtuners.com
The oem peak lift and the open close degrees (to calculate duration and total cam advance) are right in the Factory Service Manuals for these cars.

--1990-1992 turbo 5speed cams: 244 ex, 252 in
--1990-1994 turbo auto: 244 ex, 244 in
--1990-1994 n/t: 244 ex, 252 in; intake cam is advanced about 5 degrees vs. the 1990-1992 turbo 5speed, 1993-1994 turbo manual and 1995-1999
--1993-1994turbo 5pseed: 252 ex, 252 in; the intake cams have .05ish more total lift than all the other intake cams but the exhaust cam has the same lift as 1995-1999 cams
--1995-1999 all trannies: 252 ex, 252 in; same peak lift on both sides as 1990-1992 turbo 5speed, and all auto & n/t cams

All you need is a 1993-1994 intake cam to have the best dsm cam combination since you have a 2g. But you're only gaining a TINY bit more lift. You're not changing the timing or total duration even.

My question is are you still gonna run the 420a hard? If not theres a few things i would throw in there starting with the wally.
