12485, higher than normal pressure in crankcase. Posted by Journeyski, Nov-04-03 09:09 AM i have a buddy with a 1g turbo that is having some weird problems. It seams that his crankcase has a higher than normal pressure at idel and boost. he's popped out the dipstick a couple times and oil is pushed out the oil cap. This just happend last weekend end. From all my checking i can't seam to find anything wrong external. I redid his plugs and wires and didn't find any oil in the combustion chamber, just around his plug wires. Any idea what would be causeing this? i have been told that maybe his oil pump is going bad or he did some damage to his turbo. He has not done any mods to his car. any suggestions on where to start looking or maybe someone else has has this problem please let me know. | |

12486, RE: higher than normal pressure in crankcase. Posted by eclipzGST, Nov-04-03 09:39 AM he needs to do a leak-down test (not to be confused with a boost leak test). I believe there is a writeup about it on VFAQ. You will need a special tool to do it. That would be the only way to tell. | |

He blows out some black smoke when he gets on the boost. But i could not tell you what it looks like now. It was night when i was over talking to him and working on his car. The car runs smooth at idel and when he gives it some boost. But the oil pressure is the main concern. I will run a compression and leak down test on wednesday. any other suggestions? | |

Posted by slodsm, Nov-04-03 08:07 PM Thats pretty much all it can be, 4g motors shoot out the dipstick when the rings start to get worn and you run a lot of boost. The black smoke is normal though because the computer runs ultra rich at WOT and will continue to do so until the use of an AFC or similar to tune it out. | |
