OK, I think my parents are going to give me for christmas a plane ticket to see my sick grandparents AND send my car off to get the timing belt done. I've got some disturbing white smoke, so I"m thinking i'll do a comp test in a week or so and see if I need a new head gasket too.

QUESTION IS: How long could I expect to do a Head gasket, Timing belt, and new drive belts/alternator on my car for the first time? A week? Seeing as I only have 2 weeks of break before I have to go back to Uncle Sam, I'm thinking it may be worth it to convice a mechanic to do it all at once and only charge me a little more in labor. Opinions?

Thanks!
Vandy

Labor will be around $1000 for all that. Most timing belt jobs cost $600+ alone.

It took a friend and me 2 days (much of it working by myself, and he was a newbie to car work) to do my headgasket swap. I had done 6-7 timing belt jobs and pulled a few heads, so plan on a couple days more for it being your first time.

Like Jeff said it took me to days on the timing belt as well. The first day I did it wrong and the second day i corrected the problem. I sugguest trying to do it yourself because with the labor you are gonna pay you can by a new turbo with that. T-belts are not hard man. But it takes patience to do it right. Now as far as the head gasket I havent dont that yet but I plan on doing mine this winter.

Hello Mr. 12's . How are you today ?

Check your local DSM chapter. Im sure you can find someone to do the work a LOT cheaper than any mechanic.
