Anyone ever heard of one? Is it true you can get one, and possibly go from 8.5:1 on the 4g63 (i think that's stock) to 8.0:1?

There is definitely such a thing as a multi layer headgasket. It lowers compression slightly, but needs a completely flat decked head and block surface, otherwise it leaks. The OEM gasket that can be had at partznet.com is fine for most applications but if you call them (Conicelli), they have the MLS (Multi Layer steel) Gasket for 67 or so. The OEM is 30 something.

Why do you want to lower the compression to 8.0?

I dunno, I thought lower compression was better for a turbo? Lower compression = more air the turbo is able to add?

The 8.5:1 is fine for the turbo. Mitsubishi engineers wouldn't make it 8.5 if they didn't think it would be okay. Make sure to do some more research before making drastic moves like lowering your stock compression. Many 1g guys install 2g pistons to move UP to 8.5 because it helps spool time and gives more power off boost.

i have that MLS headgasket in my sixbolt 2g. the only reason i got it was cause they hold up better than the composite headgaskets..ofcourse once you get it the block and the head surfaces have to be perfectly flat otherwise youll leak..
i dont think that the gasket does much to comp, for you to worry about.
