11815, turbo upgrade questions for 2G Posted by eclipzGST, Feb-23-04 11:09 AM
In a week or 2, I'll be buying all the stuff I'm going to need to upgrade to an EVOIII 16G on my 2G FWD. I'm starting to make a list of other things that I'll need. I want to make sure I'm not leaving anything out or if anyone has any other tips/suggestions to make it go a little more smoothly. As far as I know, the turbo and all other related stuff has never been off the car so I need to what I should expect to break taking it all apart. =) so far, the list includes: SBR EVOIII 16G 2G install kit SBR 2.5" O2 housing Walbro 255 660 cc injectors S-AFC I'll probably look around for a used FMIC on the trader too. Thanks, -Tony

why don't you get a 3inch Evo ported 02 housing... much better imo... also make sure you change your fuel filter when you do the injectors... other than that everything on your list looks pretty good

I'm going with the 2.5" SBR o2 housing cause I want to dump to atmosphere and can always port that one out quite a bit. I'll be using the stock DP for a little while too. As far as fuel filter, I'll also be doing a bunch of maintenance stuff at the same time and thats on the list with oil and tranny fluid change. The timing belt is also going to be done soon. I'm at 61K now. Belt still looks good so I'm going to put it off for a couple more weeks. I only drive about 25 mi a week anyway. The thing that I'm kinda worried about is pulling the stock exaust manifold and stuff off. If I start breaking studs, it's going to be a real pita. I'm going to try to get the whole job done in a weekend working alone.

About the exhaust manifold, the day before u peform the install, spray the bolts with rust buster or whatever u prefer to use. I sprayed mine before I took the manifold and it was stiff as shit. My 14mm socket broke, its wasnt a craftsman but it broke from how strong those bolts were.
Even after all that, I strip the bolts and had spare exhaust manifold bolts from a spare engine I had. I tried a breaker bar, everything. I got them off buy using one those craftsman stripped bolt sockets. It cuts into the bolt, its awesome.
Also I havent bought I afpr but I am bout to b/c with a 255fp u might need to from what I've heard.
Other than that, u have pretty much all you need.

Hybrid forgive me because i dont wanna mess up your sale but Tony 660's with that set-up will be to big. (Safc can not tune past 630's)Unless you have a dsm link to tune them , you are gonna run extremely rich. I am having this problem now.I would sugguest getting 550's if your gonna stay with that turbo.
If your getting a dsm link and maybe a bigger turbo later on down the road then the 660's is the way to go.

I think you only need it if you're using the high pressure version. :shrug

I'll just run more boost to compensate. }( j/k. DSMLink is a future mod. I'm going to get more input before I start buying anything. I have a lot of price comparing to do. It will still be a week before I take payment for the Talon anyway. The guy is coming to pick it up this weekend.
