my friend just got a 91 GST and the valve cover says hyundai on it . why the heck is that?

Whoever had it before him probably replaced the cracked stocker with a Hyundai cover, They interchange.

I know at least the 88-92 Sonata's came with a n/t 4g63, and maybe some other models as well. The 93-98 Elantra's also came with the 4g67 (1.8L). So, that is probably just a replacement motor that came out of a Hyundai.

They just replaced the valve cover with one from a Hyundai engine. They bought their engines from Mitsubishi for a long time.
Also the 1.8L is the 4G37, not 67.
