I need to do the 60k service on a 1995 4g63.

I've done it once before on a 1G with the engine out.

I've done it a buncha times on 420a's, both with the engine in, and by pulling it out. I've found it's far easier and less chunks of skin are missing if I just remove the whole engine to do the service.

Same story with the 4g63? Is it any easier to do the tbelt service with the motor out?

And flame away, Dino and friends have already laughed me out of the chat for pulling 420a's just to get to the Tbelt ;)

Just do it with the engine in the car. It will be easier with it out of course to reach things, but that would take much longer. A few scrapes are worth the time saved.

I've never heard of someone pulling an entire engine just do to the timing belt before :) :shrug

I agree... Ive done it 3 times with the engine in the car... No probs other than a few scraped knuckles

yep, ive ripped my t-belt out probly 5 times on my car when i did my 60k service. :-( wasnt a big deal after the 2nd time. ha. do it with the car in, just make sure you have a jack to bring the engine up and down and it will be no biggie. dont think it is as close to the frame rail as the 420a.

Its a pita the first time. Took me all day. But the second time i got it done under 4hrs :O . Just have to remove one motor mount and jack the motor up and down as needed.

Timing belt, head gasket, pulleys, oil/waterpump, etc. All that major service stuff. Once you have the head off, it's just another motor mount or two and a couple sensors extra to pull the whole engine. :shrug... Call me :nuts I probably deserve it. hehheh

:-) it is so easy to replace all those pumps and stuff while the engine is in the car. no biggie. the only thing i didnt replace was the idler pully (because i was sold the wrong one and had to get the car running), and the oil pump. course, i am only at 54k so i didnt worry about the oil pump for now. i will do it at 90k or so. good luck man, and you dont have to take the head off to change the timing belt. (unless of course, you want to install cams or do something to your valvetrain during the course of the timing belt)

Do it in the car. Much easier due to time saved.

Get surgical gloves to avoid scraped knuckles if it's that big of a concern.

Turns out a Neon beater just isn't my style. I needed a 4g63 beater so I can legitimately get parts at RRE and pretend they're not for a 420a.

ive found the 4g63 timing belt a hell of a lot easier to change compared to the 420a.... specially not having to deal with the PITA UDP.... just make sure you line everything up before you take it apart, makes things a lot easier
