Control over a car is going to have to deal with speed, not the gear you are in.
Take a corner at 45 in OD, then take it again in 2nd gear and try to tell me your car took that corner easier. You can have a lot more fun coming out of that corner in 2nd, but other than that it should be identical feeling.
