Well I've stumbled upon a 1990 Laser RS Turbo for a great price, but the only problem is that it ran very rough or even not at all sometimes. I went to look at it and did a compression test on the engine. Everything was good expect the #2 cylinder which came up with 90psi. I added some oil into the cylinder and it went up to 120psi. According to my test it shows that the piston rings are worn. What do you guys recommed to fix it? I don't mind pulling the engine or anything like that, but will it need a rebuilt or can I somehow just replace the piston rings? Also how much will all this cost me? And the plans are to repair the car and then sell it to make some money since I'm getting it for dirt cheap :D

First thing is first. If the rings are worn, you'll likely want to pull the engine and inspect them first hand, since you don't mind doing that. Have a machine shop inspect clearances, or do it yourself if you have the tools to do so. Check the condition of the pistons too, and basically just see what is worn, broken or reusable. It's a very old engine, so getting the bottom end rebuilt while it's out isn't a bad idea at all, and it should be relatively cheap to do as well.

I know that's not a great answer, but basically take it apart and inspect it, and in the end it will run that much better with the clean slate of sorts. If you have the engine out, just take the precaution and get it rebuilt at least to stock.

Ah ok, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get it now... The kids that's selling it said the engine was rebuilt about 45,000 miles ago according to the previous owner, but I find that hard to believe. Also it's missing all intercooler piping and the side mount. The paint on the car is brand new and was a garage paint job. Looks pretty good, but there's a few painting imperfections you can make out. Car was also originally red and is now black, so under the hood or on the doors it's red.

Price now is $500 so it looks like I'm probably gonna end up buying the car. Here are some pics...
