1064, Potential 1G Purchase - Need Advice... Posted by Jem09, Nov-05-05 10:44 AM
Peace, I've come across another opportunity to purchase my 2nd car. There's a 92' Eagle Talon MT locally, sellin' for $1,500.00... The body paint is teal in color, looks like I'm goin' to have to strip the paint and primer that sh!t gray...if I purchase it that is...
The person sellin' it stated he swapped the engine out to a Mitsubishi engine, I thought both the Eagle Talon and Eclipse of those years came with the 4G63 engine?
Hit me back with ya knowledge regardin' the 1G's...
Peace, Jem

Does it run? Sounds like the person selling it is a complete moron. They all came with a Mitsu 4G63 back in those days. I'll tell you this much, I've seen pristine-looking 1G AWD cars for that price. Almost bought one this month too. I'd suggest passing on this one unless you really want it.

Wait it out. Thats my opinion. I didn't jump all over the '97 GSX at my shop for $6,000. Instead, I got a '91 VR-4.
The way I see things, cars and racing is an addiction. I bitched so much to get my GS-T. I had a 95 GS, decent, but it wasnt turbo. I got a GS-T, turbo, decent, but I still drove by RX-7s, Supras, and VR-4s and said "man I want that car"
So, where am I now? I drive a VR-4. I drive by RX-7s and anythign else in my small town and I'm like, "its good to know I got 2 turbos now, and I can keep up with, if not beat a lot of cars out there" I laugh whenever riced out Eclipses drive by me.
Think about where you wanna be in a couple years. A 3rd 2nd Gen Eclipse woulda kept me still thinking "what if I had a twin turbo car?" So i finally got a twin turbo car.
If it's your dream to take a car to the max, then go for it. I wanted to turbo my GS, but got a GS-T instead. I wanted a GSX, but got a VR-4 instead. The next step for me is a Skyline, LOL. No, I'm gonna mod up my VR-4 and be happy with that car.

Wow, those are amazing comments from both of you.
Brian, you almost got a GSX for $1500, but I would not come even near saying it was in prestine condition, remember, there was a fucked up motor sitting under the hatch, and I'm pretty sure I saw some body damage on those fenders...
NHh223 you missed out big time on buying a 97 GSX for $6000. Instead you opted for a car 6 years older and you paid how much for it??
Personally I think getting a 1G turbo for $1500 is a steal as long as it is in good working condition and doesn't look too bad.
If high horsepower is something you want out of a car, you can't beat the price you pay for high horsepower from a 4g63. Get a VR-4, sure you can get more power, but you have to pay twice as much for everything, 2 turbos, 2 manifolds, etc. 1G, 2G, 4g63 is the best way to go for cheap, reliable power if you do it right.

Didn't say if it was turbo or NT. I don't think they made teal turbo cars. Move along, there's nothing to see there... Next time, we definetly need more info to go on. "I want to buy a car, it's red. Should I pay $2000 for it?", Just doesn't cut it. We need details!

Thats funny because most of the 600-1000 hp Supras i know of use a single turbo set up. Correct me if im wrong here, but i was under the impression twin turbo is not king of the road, as you so described it. ?

Good advice, unfortunately, where I'm located (Clarksville, TN), there aren't many cars that I found that truly caught my interest and really made me want to get it. The only cars that will get somewhat of an interest are the 1G's and 2G's...
The car runs, the person stated there wasn't anythin' wrong with it, he had the clutch changed recently, but he couldn't tell me when was the last time he changed the belts and pulley's and a few other ques.. He's goin' to hit me back this Mon. with that info. by gettin' it from his mechanics records.
Where would you recommend I search for those 1G deals you were referrin' too? I'm willin' to travel a few hundred miles to purchase/pick it up...
Good lookin' out, Jem

That's funny. Some moron at work tried telling one of my co-workers that Talons had a Mitsubishi engine and Eclipses have a Dodge engine. :rolleyes He was saying this because my co-worker has a 95 GS and that he should get a motor from a Talon to go faster. Then I came across this dude, he worked in a different dept, and politely told him that his info was wrong and tried to tell him the facts but he kept rudely interupting me. So I eventually just said "sorry buddy but your wrong". Then the next day one of the co-workers in his dept came up to us and told us that he was so furious about me calling him "buddy" and he was wrong about Eclipses/Talons that he wanted to kick my ass, then he threw a big panel of sheetmetal around and he was told to pack up his shit and get out. He tried to get his job back, but nobody liked him anyway. He also told people that he used to own a Mitsu dealer in New York so he knows Mitsubishis. LOL Oh yeah, this dipshit drives a Neon that he fucked up the timing belt on and blew the motor! Anyway, I'd stay clear of that car. Sounds like that guy is a lot like the aforementioned fucktard. Check around online, Ebay, your local newpapaer, and Car Trader magazine for a nice 1G. Turbo 1Gs did come in teal. VR4s and Stealth R/Ts are sweet cars but weigh too damn much. They can be put deep into the 13s easily but any faster and they cost too much, imo. If money was no problem then we'd bypass a VR4 and get a Porsche TT AWD and then laugh at all the wannabe "exotic" cars such as the VR4.
