started to put on my 02 housing and all was going to plan...jack up the car....get parts.....ok. here are some problems. :-( i have lost a the bottom forward bolt for the 02 housing. it fell off the top of the valve cover into a little ridge like thing that is basically the back of the timing belt cover. i saw it and tried to scoop it up with a screwdriver and then it literally just dissapeared. i have NO IDEA where it went. i worked for about 4 hours today, and i got NOTHING done. anyways, my two questions are: 1. it wont matter that i lost that bolt and i will be able to drive the car and whatever, it will fall out sooner or later? 2. where can i get another with the quickness? thanks guys. i am seriously getting sick of this car. i have had it sitting in the garage for the whole summer. the first day of summer it started driving crappy with idle problems. (we have discussed this before) havent touched it since. any help is appreciated!

take the other bolt to a hardware store and se if they can match it. Its a metric fine thread bolt so it may be a PITA to find one. you may have to go to a bearing warehouse to get it.
Also, is there any chance the bolt fell INTO the timing belt cover? if so you may not want to drive it till you get the cover off and get the bolt out. It might make the timing belt break or skip a tooth if it gets caught up in it

i dont think there is a chance that it fell into the timing belt cover, i could see it behind. i did see it, for a second. i think it fell and is lodged between the block and some stupid bracket that i see no need for. it is actually a nut that i lost. it was the only one there. i dont have a spare to take to the store.

what nut was it? I might have one i could send ya
Or you could take a bolt thats the same size and find a nut to fit it

i dont know what size the bolt is, it sticks out the side of the turbo. it doesnt come off. oh man, it isnt lookin good. :-(

ok.. the nut screws into a stud... you're going to have to take the stud off of the turbo... and take it to a parts store..and get a new nut for it...

An idea. Most of the bolts/nuts for out cars come in a couple of metric sizes. 6x1.25 8x1.5 etc. Go to Lowe's/Home depot and buy one of each nut for the metric sizes 6/8/10 in the varying thread pitches. One of them WILL work since we use only a few differing ones on the entire car. You won't have to remove the stud, which could end up causing a GIANT headache in the end adn you'll find the right size for that nut.

Also, be sure to find the other nut no matter what. Having a loose piece of hard metal floating around lost in you engine bay could prove to be another easily prevented huge headache.

well, i seriously dont know how to find that nut. i have no idea how to take off that bracket and i think that it will be a huge issue to do so. it connects to the motor mount bracket that is on the timing belt side of the engine. the bracket runs down the side of the block and a couple other things bolt to it. this is purely speculation but i have a feeling that i would have to take off the power steering pump, alternator, motor mount bracket, maybe more. for a rediculous lost nut, no thanks. i KNOW it didnt fall into the timing belt cover, i could see it before it vanished into thin air and i know that the back of the timing belt cover goes all the way down to the bottom of the block so i am not worried about jumping timing. i have a feeling once i turn the engine on, the vibrations will either lodge it so it will NEVER come out unless i pull the engine, or rattle its way to the ground. as for finding another one, i am probly screwed. what grade do i need? 8? i will try to get some pics tonight so you guys will know where that bolt went and maybe you will have some ideas on getting it out easily.

EDIT:screw it, maybe i will just buy a new freakin turbo. dont know why though, purely to spend money mostly....it has been down all summer anyway, what is a few more months to get a new turbo then the whole winter to wait for good weather again.

I know what nut youre talkin about. Its the same thread size and pitch as the Bolts that hold the 02 housing on.
Just take one of the bolts that hold the 02 housing on to teh hardware store and match the nut to it. :thumbsup
I got an extra bolt Ill see what thread size and pitch it is for ya too.

sweetness. :thumbsup i got a buddy comin over on saturday and we are gonna try to shake the car down for that bolt. he seems to think that it will take roughly 7 bolts and that bracket will wiggle enough to let that nut drop. (nut drop. LOL) anyways, we will see if he is right. i would rather use OEM hardware instead of the lowes special.

the bolt is an M10x1.25

Lol but its a nut... its like $0.35, Thats the only part you can buy for a DSM that doesnt involve a loan officer...
