I'm just finishing up my FMIC install and I was looking at my trimmed front bumper: The thing blocks about 1/3 of the IC core...

does everyone's do this, or should I take off alot of the bumper to improve IC exposure? I'm lost as to why I spent the money on a larger core at this point...

It still cools just fine. Larger core = more flow. It doesn't all need to be exposed to the air.

Yeah I sawed the crap out of my front bumper, but I used a dremmel attachment for sawing...worked wonders and was MUCH easier to control than a sawzall. As for the front facia, I used a diff. dremel attachment and it looks pretty darn good, if I may say so myself. Now to paint the damn thing...

I'll try to get a pic up of my bumper....its still there, just a piece cut out for the upper pipe on the greddy FMIC and some trimmed at the bottom to accommodate the IC itself. I"m thinking I may trim up some more to get air flowing vertically along the IC, but we'll see. How many of you have re-used or created your own ducting for the FMIC vs. just using the front fascia as a guide?

huh? what are you going to do, have a big air dam sticking off the front of your bumper? The FMIC is the first thing that will see air, whay would you need ducting? Now for the radiator is another story...

yeah I was thinking of a way to keep the air from going vertically up the FMIC but pass through it entirely...and then into the radiator...I dunno, just trying to think of the best way to duct it. Was also considering using the hole from the side mount to maybe route air through the radiator from the side and front somehow, but I don't think its going to be necessary. Have you had any cooling problems tony?

yes, I actually am having some issues when stopped in traffic. I just have to turn the heat on though. Does'nt bother me but the wife doesn't like it too much :P Driving is not a problem though at all.
See, my problem is I had to remove a fan because it didn't clear my lower IC pipe.
I just ordered a 12" SPAL fan so that should take care of it.

crap you shoulda said something---I trimmed my fans too for the initial install...could give a pic or 2...was there no way you could've/still could trim the stocker and avoid the $100 SPAL?

Nope. I had to use the smaller A/C fan on the other side and the bigger fan was a no-go no matter how much I timmed short of taking off half the blades. :rolleyes.
I got the SPAL fan from a fellow NEDSM'er who's parting his car out. $60 shipped. He's also the guy who came down to pick up my Talon when I sold it.

you wont have to worry about the fan if you have a greddy fmic. tony has another fmic kit

yup. I have the ADFX kit and what made things even more difficult is my J-pipe was custom made using a 14b outlet flange welded onto a 180^ mandrel bend. The bend is at an angle that puts the piping a little closer to the fans than it should be.

sorry to hear about the fans but its a good thing you got the SPAL for cheap. Yeah I know about the ADFX kit, but your radiator probably won't know the diff between which large metal thing is shoved in front of it, if you get what i'm saying. I"m sure with both fans i'll be fine...now to see about taking off that lip on the bottom of the front liscence plate going across the IC opening....

yeah, greddy piping is all up front and you can use the stock or upgraded j-pipe for the turbo (16G correct?) and should still have plenty of clearance with the stock fans.
Cutting the bumper was easy as pie. ;) I just zipped right through it by eye. It's definetly not straight or pretty but my bumper was thrashed from when I had it lowered anyway. :rolleyes

Fuck it! Just ride around like this! Keeps air flow high, and everyone knows you are a badass :P

actually my bumper is so piecemeal at this point its really only there to support the front fascia anymore... :evilgrin
