My ecu is bad in my GST ('90), and I borrowed one from Drewski's AWD TSI ('90). Well, the car starts now, and idle's good, but when you try to give it gas (even floor it) it just revs to about 1.5k/2k. It just goes vroom vroom vroom vroom vroom over and over again. A couple of times, it has went up to 4k, but nothing over that. Also, we thought that the fuel pump was bad so we replaced it with a 255. Just to make sure, that wont make it do anything crazy, right. I took the plugs out yesterday (bought a brand new set) and they were pretty black (the car has only been started a couple of times). Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the ecu's should be the same. that is all i know.

90's are different than 91-94.
91-94 could be eprom or non.
ATX and MT are different for 1G's. 95's are eprom.
96-99 are all the same.
Did you use a 255 hp or regular?
Did you try it after changing the plugs?

when i had my 90 gsx it was weird with ecus. I had the typical leaking caps that destroyed my AWD ecu, so i put in a FWD ecu and it didnt like it. Rough idle, wouldnt always start. So i got an AWD ecu (md145903- lol, sad i still remember the code) and the car ran fine. From all my research it SHOULD work with others, but the 90's can only use a 90 ecu and it is supposed to work but with mine it didnt.

you can use a 91-94 in a 90 as well if you flip a few pins on the ecu. not EVERYTHING works perfect but it will work for all intensive purposes.

FWD and AWD ecus are the same. Make sure your MAS is plugged in and secure. If you have an SAFC make sure it is properly set up and plugged in as well.

Well, guys thanks for the replies. We figured out what was wrong. Drewski had an awd tsi that ran. Well, I told him that we should take the ecu out of his running car b/c we knew that it was good, and if it still done the same thing, then it was a sensor not the ecu. We took it out, went to the garage, put in it, the car started and ran perfect. The awd and fwd are jus a little different on the fuel trims. Well, I checked the number on the old ecu, and it was for a 90 non-turbo ecu. The non turbo ecu will allow a turbo to start but not run. So, now all I have to do is find a good used ecu. Thanks again!
