Well, I launched the car hard as hell against a C5, and as you can see it didn't work out very well.
![]() The rearend went BOOOM!
![]() Once I got up, we started on the rearend swap
![]()
![]() Started pulling the axle out:
![]() Once the pumpkin was loose, pieces started to fall out haha!
![]() And HOLY SHIT!
![]()
![]() Um ya. Try to figure that mess out!
![]()
![]()
![]()
![]() Broken parts:
![]() The pumpkin was broke into 92345923459er pieces!
![]() Then we put in the crusty, but good pumpkin for the time being.
![]() And finished product:
![]() I'm gonna park it for awhile and let it think about what it did... haha, its grounded!

9" > 8.8" Also, the IRS isn't best for drag racing.
That's still nuts, though, that it grenaded the rear end like that.

That's pretty cool. That's the kinda shit you would be proud to have break.
I think the twisted driveshaft pics from that supra are better.

I wonder if he had too much slack in them, or had the ring gear slightly off center. I hate changing gears in my 9" and lining everything back up, check clearences, checking the foot print, etc.

The cobra has an IRS, the lighnting is a straight axle; cobra has an 8.8", while the lightning runs a 9". Two completely different rear ends.
Not to mention the lightning is an automatic supercharged 16-valve 5.4l and the cobra (non-03/04) is an NA 32-valve 4.6l (throw in a supercharger on the 03/04 cobra).
They really don't share much, other than design (modular block), and the heads are interchangeable.
