Alright, well yesterday I was in the Hannover Messe (not positive about rank, but it's one of the worlds largest mech. eng. conferences). Anyway, I thought I'd share this with everyone.

1.4 liter, 125kW, supercharged and turbocharged

I talked to one of the reps and he said that this will most likely not make it to the states, but that they are going under a redesign for the European right-hand steering version. He made the joke that the American market wouldn't except such a small displacement motor, ha. So enjoy, I found it interesting.

Looks sweet. Dunno about the glow stuff on the pipes though.

So basically, the supercharger gives boost at low RPMs, and the turbo takes over at high RPMS? WHILE the supercharger steals power from the engine? Doesn't seem like a good design, but thats just my opinion.

The supercharger is clutched and can be disengaged. Like an AC compressor.

I like it. And it glows like some future monster radiation beast thing.

It was a pretty blingified demo. I've never seen light up tubing or chrome plated pistons/rods/valves/etc, ha ha. Either way, a neat idea none the less.

To think that somewhere under all those lights, vaccumm lines, electrical wiring, plastinc piping, forced induction devices, oil lines, throtle and valve linkages, belts, pulleys, and clutches there is an actual engine in there.

That thing must be 50% engine by mass and another 50 in accessories and crrap. I hope they engineer everything to be extremely reliable or they are going to have problems. I think its a good idea but just very complicated, if aybody can pull it off, it's the Germans.

I think that a better way to make up for Turbo Lag is with that new variable turbine vein geometry that has been coming into more popular use. That technology is more elegant and simple.

I saw an article on a tuner mag I believe where they had a setup like that on a Toyota Celica. Selectively Supercharged and Turbocharged to make up for lag.

They just made the pipes glow so people coud see how they're routed from the the SC and turbo. Basically just eye candy for dumbasses who don't know what to look for and where.

This kinda design has been applied to many vehicles already it just never came like that from the factory. I've seen people do that to a Mini Cooper S by just added the turbo to an already supercharged engine and if I remember right it was making quite a bit of HP. This has also been applied quite a bit to tractor pulls when people need a bunch of HP on a limited budget. The only benifit I can see of having a Super Turboed car is for a high supply of HP on a budget. I guess because the supercharger has a clutch like an AC compressor that it would be kinda practical for a smaller engine that might need the power at only a certain time. Good idea though.

Pretty cool, whats going to be intresting is when people start to modify them.

god i was hoping someone would finaly say that! ha

its obviously not finished product. unless that plastic turbo can withstand some high temps!!
