Damn that sucks. It's repairable but it's gonna cost an arm and a leg to get it fixed. My brother had similar damage on his integra after he got hit by some old guy and the insurance junked the car. The problem with rear quater panel damage is that you can't just pop that part of the car off and put another one on like you can with a door or fender. A body shop will charge thousands to fix that kind of damage.

Really? Damn, I didn't know it was expensive. I learned how to do it in school and it is pretty easy and straight forward.

Yep. I think a body shop will charge three thousand and up to fix something like that. But then again it depends on the extent of the damage. If the panel jsut has dents that can just be popped out then it won't cost that much. But if the piece has to be replaced that's a lot of work. Your talking cutting, welding, and painting of another panel. It's cheap if you know how to do it yourself but bodyshops will charge a lot cause that's how they make their living. ;-)

i didnt pay for it, insurance did....

I got hit in that same exact spot, well..part of it lol. It was a dent about the size of a basketball on that side panel, the result of some dumbass chick backout out of a parking spot, and turning too soon, her bumper scraped and dented my side panel, it wasnt nearly as big as your damage, but the insurance company estimated it at $1900.

yea it's definitely repairable. needs a new quarter panel though, no sense in straightening that one. it would be full of mud by the time it was finished. it actually probably won't be THAT expensive. it really all depends on where you live and the labor rate on body repair in your area. around here it's about 40 an hour. is there any suspension damage? that would probably be what would drive the bill up since mechanical labor is more than body and paint labor not to mention parts .

There is no suspension damage, but my alignment is off a bit.
Got an estimate of about $5,000 at one place, then $2,200 at another.

wow that's a big difference between shops. mind telling me what the major difference's in the actual estimates where? like what does the expensive estimate have on it that the cheaper one doesn't? that's a huge price gap and the cheaper shop is possibly leaving some stuff out or something.

damn koj, that sucks dude. it would be repariable..but the thing is.. ins may not cover it. it has always been the belief that if you get hit in that panel, its gonna cost too much and they will just total your car. so unltimatley all the cost would therein lie in your hands.

when i had my wreck in the parents pathfinder in dec i didnt do hardly anything like that in the way of damage and they totalled out the car and it was a 98. i see it very hard to get ins to cover all that and not total an 11 year old car. :(

yea it's not so much where the car was hit but what kind of car it was. 2g's aren't worth that much anymore so it will probably be a total loss unfortunately

Your best bet, is to let insurance total the car, have them cut you a check for the value(which isnt a whole lot), then look into buying the car back from them. When my 93 celica was totalled, it was worth $3400, the insurance estimate was too much and they ruled it a total, they gave me the option of buying the car back for $200. So i got a check for $3200, which probably could have fixed the car, but instead sold it for $1400. This is a chance for you to make some money.

Damage to the rear quarter panel of a 2G will pretty much total the car for insurance purposes unless its a nice GSX. Anyone quoting less than $2k to repair a rear 2G panel probably doesn't realize how much is involved in replacing it.

There were 2 lanes; I was on the right, the lady who was driving the truck was on the left. I was gaining some speed in order to pass around her for the upcoming lane merge, which ended up being quite a distance away from where she made contact with me. Unfortunately for me, she claims I "merged" into the side of her truck. Who the fuck merges into a semi truck?

Anyways, as I'm gaining some speed, I have my windows down and I can obviously hear that monstrous engine gain some speed as well. Before I know it, she smacks into the driver's rear end of my car and knocks me completely off the side of the road. My guess is, she was pissed off that some little sports car wanted to get ahead of her and decided to toast my car, thinking she could get away from it since I was in the lane that needed to merge. Or, most semi truck drivers from what I hear, will gain dominance over both lanes before merging, to prevent other vehicles from passing it. Or hell, she could have fell asleep at the wheel. You can see in the first picture that the two lanes do not even merge for quite a distance. And where my skid marks are on the pavement was not even exactly where I got hit. My car jerked to the right and she pulled off to the left after hitting me and my car slides off to the side of the road, ended up doing a 180.

Problem is, my insurance company hasn't successfully gotten in contact with the insurance of the company she drives for. At the incident, that information was not given out by her supervisor who ended up coming to the scene. This is my first experience and I am only nineteen years old, I have no idea what I'm doing. What sucks even more is, I only have liability insurance and it seems to be in her favor.

i assume you are talking about a semi truck. from the looks of where you got hit, you were in her blind spot and sher merged over 'thinking' no on was there. what sucks is its basically your word against hers, unless there was a witness. i think you have a good chance of winning.

Yes, it was a semi truck... although there was no trailer attached, nonetheless a semi. Unfortunately, there were no witnesses invovled. Another problem I'm trying to figure out is, my insurance company called this morning and recorded a statement by me over the phone. My agent mentioned that her insurance company will be calling me and I'll pretty much do the same thing; have a statement be recorded over the phone. I called the claims office later today and the lady mentioned that my agent has had no success so far with contacting their insurance. What should I do?

Dan (the dawg) i just had the front portion of my drivers quarter pulled, door skin replaced, ground effects replaced and the door jamb all re-aligned (It was peeled open about 3/4"). Fender, bumper, and spoiler repainted for 1700.00, would have cost 2300.00 if billed to insurance (I paid cash and therefore it was cheaper). There is a lot of quarter damage that can be repaired as you should know. Once i have the car in the garage i can post picts of the before and after.

Saiku, your is not repairable. The Damage to the wheel well area, and rear bumper line is what will do the panel in for replacement. You see, we dont have many body lines and that makes the repair easier but you have damage to all the lines in theat panel except the window line. It will be too much work to get all the ripples out and they may not be able to in the end. The flip side is that the shop may be that experienced and know for a fact that they can get the ripples out and get everything to line up as planned. The new dent pulling equipment is really nice and allows them to pull the dent extremely accurately. I would not be surprised for them to pull it well enough for you to say, "I like it".

The two estimates differ because one shop thinks they will pull the quarter and one is plannign to replace it. The cheaper shop does it and it wont be 100% the same as the passenger side. You even be able to see the body work or they figure they will cut it open to see how bad it is then try to get more money from the insurance hoping the insurance wont total it. Its a game to see how much they can get without totalling it and then they weigh the job to see if its worth it. Next thing they do is compare that judgement with how busy they are or how slow they have been. If they are very slow and have had a real bad year, then they will take on the job cheaper just to get the business and pay their employees.

Sorry to see this and i know exactly how you feel. Mine didnt look all that much different, only mine was all in front of the wheel and went 1/2 into the door. (my fault)

Anyways, because the Eclipse is a unibody car, any damage to that portion of the car costs an arm and a leg to fix.

As for what to do concerning insurance and judgment, where's CustomGS? He's an insurance mogul.

Not much i can add here. The one thing most of you dont know is. In order for the Insurance company to declare it as a total loss, the damage only needs to EXCEED 80% of the cars value. The damage does not need to be OVER the cars value. In your case it seems as if they will total it. Our cars rear quarters are no joke to fix and not to mention your suspension and alignment will be f***ed for the life of the car. If they do declare it a total loss then you will always have the option of buying it back from them for real cheap. So you can ultimately get your car back and some money. But it will have a salvage title which can be a bitch when it comes to registering it again.

ma piece o' junk is salvaged, not much trouble registering it, just that it hadnt been in like 3 years...its all in the past now tho :)

I'll be getting the police report finally today; not really looking forward to what that says. But if this whole situation ends up in my favor, I may end up having insurance total the car, buy it back for cheap, part out what I have on it & buy my friend's 1995 completely stock GS-T (leather, black, 5spd, 100,xxx miles) that sits in his parent's garage. Recently purchased it a while back before he went back up to Wyoming to finish schooling at Wyotech, but now he was just offered a job in Vegas at Shelby... it just sits now.

Then again, if shit ends up my fault, I'll have to find an RS rim w/ tire at a junk yard to swap out with the donut and cruise around in her until I have enough for a new car.

Eh, got the police report; said it was my fault. This is one of those situations like the whole rear-ending of someone; no matter what the excuse, it is always going to be the rear-ender's fault. I was on the lane that was supposed to merge; its going to be my fault. I will never claim this accident as my fault, but that of an asshole semi-truck driver.

The car definitely drives fine; just looks horrid on the outside. My friend's parents aren't going to sell the GS-T, so I think I'll be saving up for another 2GNT; I just can't part away from these cars. Started looking at Civics and Integras, nope, not doing it for me. First car was a 94 1.8l Eagle Talon DL, then I bought my 95 Eclipse GS & now, I'll be saving up for another NT. I'm not crazy about horsepower, so I'm fine with a non-turbo... I'll probably end up leaving it mostly stock, you just can't get a car that looks as good for the money. Since I'll be keeping my car, most of the shit on it will be going onto whatever new 2GNT I buy (headlights, DC Sport header, GST muffler, MSD ignition, CAI).
