Fuck this piece of shit. This makes me think I won't ever buy a fucking playstation again. I can't turn the fucking thing off without having to take it apart and mess with shit so it will read a disc the next time. If I see that "Disc Read Error" bullshit one more time, I might lose it. This is fucking stupid. All I want to do is play some GT4, and I fucking can't.

mine is slowly kicking the bucket. about a year ago it started havin trouble reading DVD's. id have to insert and re-insert them over and over untill it would start reading the disc. then about 6 months ago it refused to play DVD's any more no matter how many times i tried. now its starting to do that with the games. takes between 3 and 5 tries to get GT4 to load. after that it does fine..its just getting it to start reading the disc upon insertion

i had a friend who's did that after 8 months of having, so he went out to walmart and bought another one and return the old one in it's place. got away with it and hasn't had prob. with the new one since then.

Thats odd. I bought mine used off a friend for 80 bucks with 2 games, memory card, and controller 3 years ago. I've yet to have a single problem....(knocks on wood)

I haven't had any problems with mine but that's probably because I never use it. I'm more of an Xbox guy. PS2 just never appealed much to me once the box came out.

i used to work and again will , for gamecrazy, open it and use a can of compressed air to clean the lense,
DO NOT TOUCH IT, i bought mine in 02 and had that same read error, and not after i clean it and covered the back fan with double sided tame (50% of the squares only, in a chckered pattern :) )i also bought a lil brush and clean it once in a while, not a single isue since.

I hope mine doesn't break until PS3 comes out. Either that or I'll just buy the PS slim w/ the 80,000 plus tickets I got at dave and busters :-)

I'm on my 2nd PS2 after like 5 years. I got the slim one now less moving parts to break I guess. Got a modchip too :)

thanks! ill be sure and try that. i know it has crap in there cuz iv seen it through the little vents. ill let ya know how it turns out. iv never had any other issues other than that. oh and i think iv had mine for...4 years?

EDIT: wow thanks dude! i just took the case apart and it had tons of crap in it. took it out to the shop and gently blew it out with compressed air. hooked it all back up and she plays dvd's and games just like they day i bought it. points for you! i was almost lookin to go out and buy a dvd player just so i could watch my movies.

worked like a charm for tons of my customers, if for any weird reason you still have a warranty, make sure to heat up the protective sticker on the back and peel it off slowly so it doesnt show the VOID letters hehehehe, just dont tell any one i told you this, ESPECIALLY sony :)

Shit had mine since it came out, no problems at all yet. I do dust it all the time and use air cans through the vents and shit every once and a while though.
