6906, Buying from a private seller (350z) Tips and questions needed Posted by jsupetran, Apr-05-06 09:42 AM
Okay so I'm researching the whole car buying thing and I came up with some questions. Right now, I am moving towards buying a new Z off the lot, but another option would be to buy used from a private seller since I could size up the main driver of the car and see what their driving habits were like (like ask them what the break in habits are like, does it burn oil, age of the driver-no twenty somethings) Now, if I buy used, could I forseeably see from the dealer records what type of work the car has had (if the owner has taken the car for all its issues to the dealer) by taking the vin number to the dealer such as warrantee work, oil changes, repairs and issues the owner may have taken it to the dealer. I guess what I need is to tell if the reason the person was getting rid of it was of mechanical issues. I am looking to buy an 2005 with less than 80000 miles. Thanks!

no 2005 should have anywhere near 80000 miles. when i was looking for a Z, there were 03's that barely had half that amount.

So you're looking to either drive off the lot with a Z with 0 miles or a used one with less than 80k...that's a heck of a gap.

Dude, just get a used one. Factory warranty is 30k so you know, my 03 only has 28k miles on it so far. Just find one from a 30+ male. Do not buy a car from a female, ever. I would suggest putting Redline trans and diff fluid in as soon as you get it, the nissan stuff sucks. Check the forums for the proper mix.

I have to agree with you on that one. That car is going to need a whole new rear off of another Z welded on to fix it. A body shop will charge like 6,000 just to do that.
