6865, Sucessful Diet and Exercise plans: Who's got one? Posted by ScreaminE, Apr-04-06 04:29 PM
Right now I am at 228 lbs and I would like to drop around 25-30 lbs before summer gets here.
Last year I was up to around 235 and got back down to around 210-215 on the weight watchers 2000 calorie diet, but I felt like it was lacking structure and it was way too easy to cheat.
What I'm looking for is a solid diet and exercise schedule that I can follow that will help my sorry ass keep on track.
Right now I eat worse than any human being alive, so I'm chalked full of preservatives and I have food cravings that would make a crack addict blush. I would like to be able to look at food as if it was needed to stay alive, not needed to deliver me from my hellacious study/school schedule.
Have any of you had any luck on any sort of diet suppliments? Back in the summer before my freshman year of college I got down to 187 pounds when my ex dumped me and I started taking stacker III on top of severe distress and depression. That was the wrong way to do it as well due to the fact that it kept me awake all night and I felt like shit at any given time.
I'm sick of being fat again but I keep telling myself next week I'm gonna start my diet but I never do and it has become a bad habbit that if I dont break I'm gonna be pushing 250 by christmas.
Feedback? Suggestions? I'm open for any serious response.

i'm with you- I'm 6' like 275. I've lost about 10lbs already. I just cut out as much as i can (snacks, extras with meals like fries, etc). Ive been drinking alot of water- and changing what i eat- cereal in the morning, a sandwich at lunch as opposed to fast food stuff. I also cut out late night eating. Ive been going to the gym like 4-5 times a week and do a steady walk with an incline for like an hour and 15 mins or so, or be on the cross trainer for like 45 mins-1 hour. I'm going to greece this summer so I want to lose some weight for that, im hoping about another 25-30 like you want to lose. Good luck with what you do!

Im not what you would consider fat but at 30yrs old and 6 foot 210 lbs im not as slim as i use to be. i go through this same stuff everyyear and its good to see that im not the only one. i start around march and eat nothing but salad for 3 months. it sounds crazy but eating nothing but salad a nd grilled chicken breast helps me slim down to about 190 just in time for summer. During this 3 months i also walk about a mile everynight after i eat my final meal. best way to fix your late night cravings is with protein. get you a high protein shake mix with zero carbs and fix one when your hungry and drink it. when i use to be at my best i never ate solid food after 6pm. most of what you eat after 6pm is what makes you gain weight, if salad is not for you than id suggest switching your dinner and lunch meals, have dinner at lunch time and eat something light for dinner, but im telling you eat salad for a week and dont cheat and you will loose 10 lbs in that week. the rest comes off slow but that first week is like bam! oh and 1 tic tac is cheating! salad and water. with me the motivation is looking at people who are overweight and not wanting to be there. As for exercise the whole time i was in the marines i was in tip top shape and i got there doing push ups pull ups and sit ups with the exception of running that was it!

I know this sounds a little stupid, but when you talk about the salad/water diet, what kind of lettuce did you use? What kind of dressing if any?

doesnt matter i use romaine cause im a ceasar person but i also use the reg shyt cause i like ranch, from all the calories you will be cutting by cutting other foods out i dont think dressing is an issue unless your using more dressing than salad and as for water i drink propel not reg water

Lift weights 4x a week, do 30mins of cardio 5x, eat better funds with small cheat snacks here and there. If you are a student however, I understand that it is much harder since your schedule is so unstable but to the best that you can. I find that if my schedule is stable its much easier to workout and eat better. When I worked at a retail where my schedule always shifts each week, it was harder to workout.

You've probably heard it a million times, but cardio is the only way to lose it quick. Running or jumproping mainly. If youre a lazy guy like me, i'm 5'6 and i stay at a steady 130, a few things to do to help lose some extra fat, is to eat protein, lots of it. Get some SOY protein, not whey, mix it with non fat milk, drink about 2-3 of those a day. Someone above mentioned drinking cold water, that also helps burn fat, make sure its cold though. Eat a lot of natural protein also, such as chicken, or tuna, cut back on mayo and stuff like that of course. When i try to shed lbs, my meals during the day consist of:
Breakfast 7:30: 1/2 cup of oatmeal, which cooked is obviously more, and a few strawberries(they help speed up metabolism)
10:30 Protein shake
1:00: Can of tuna, drained, no mayo or anything else.
4:00: Protein shake
6:30/7:00: Chicken breast, and a few leaves of lettuce
10:00 Protein shake before bed.
Also, try to drink about a gallon to a 1.5 gallons of water a day.
With that diet, i can shed about 6-7lbs a week if i dont cheat.

Drink lots of water and run, run, run. When I was in boot camp all we did was run, exercises here and there and other forms of physical training but running will deffintley shed some weight. There were guys in my division that lost 30lbs in 6 weeks. Get yourself an ipod or mp3 player drive somewhere and map out a good route to jog. Dont go on a tredmill or around a track it will be very boring and lack of scenary will tire you out. Find and interesting place to run and give it your all. I use to hate running, now I run all the time. I could'nt even run a mile now I can run 5 miles and hardly get tired. My standards are more vigorous, but you just keep on it and you'll shed the weight.

Ya man running will get you there, I also went to boot camp and it true people loose weight quick. Right now I lift weights about an hour 6 days a week and then run for another 20-30mins afterwards. I eat pretty much whatever I want, but I try to stay away from fast food and junk food. I am 5'10" 180lbs, but not much is fat. You are prolly just going to have to try some different things and see what works best for you.

I think the most important think to getting in shape is understanding that in order to lose weight you have to do cardio and strength training and watch what you eat. If you lift weights and don't do cardio you will gain muscle but you won't see them because it will be covered by fat. If you do cardio and don't lift weights you will lose weight but your body won't have any shape. And if you lift weights and do cardio but eat junk all day you won't make any progess. I lost 65lbs after high school in three months by doing an hour of cardio every morning and lifting weights six days a week. I also cut most of my carbs and ate mostly protein.

Talk to Matt, HybriDSM, he just lost around 45 pounds. Don't talk to me I gained like 30 pounds. But then again I used to be 6'1 146 so now I'm somewhat normal, w/ a stomach.

As of Monday morning, this week, I have lost 53 pounds since Jan 1. My "regimen" has consisted of one thing. This was my mantra; "You don't need to eat that, you fat fuck".
Honestly, this was the only way for me to fundamentally change my eating habits. I essentially felt like I split between two people; the old me who ate because it was something to do and just ate for the sake of eating, and the new me who realizes that you don't need to eat much at all to a) be full and b) sustain yourself. I really got to a point where I was verbally assaulting myself to stop from following through with the pangs for eating that were my fat body giving it's old signals of being hungry when it really wasn't.
I also added in 4 days a week of cardio (for me stationary bike, alternating from long steady rides to sprint workouts on the bike because I hate running more than anything ever) and just cutting down on all my portions and stopping with soda. Drink a metric fuckton of water, eat half of your normal portions and just NEVER cheat. Any time you cheat you should feel like you ran over a baby with your car and left it for dead. That is honestly the only way you can make yourself feel like you should in no uncertain terms overeat.
Just so you know, I was a competitive athelete all the way through college (lacrosse in college, lacrosse, football and basketball before that), so I developed eating habits commensurate to that of a person burning 4-5000 calories a day. once I graduated, I stopped burning those calories, but my body did not change the way it viewed hunger. These last three months have been about altering my mindset, because weight loss is entirely mental.

not true. maybe if you eat shitty it will be covered by fat, but if you go back and look at my pics in that other thread, i did zero cardio and lifted weights 5 days a week and lost fat on my stomach and gained muscle everywhere else

The easiest thing to do is to cut "sodas" completely out of your daily routine.
I lost like 10-15 pounds just doing that.

Yeah I saw your pics and you've made huge improvements but from the pics I saw you weren't too fat when you started out. If you start out being really fat and all you do is lift and no cardio you will not be able to see your muscle. Trust me. In your case you didn't need cardio because you weren't so fat when you started. Ask any professional trainer out there and they will tell you to that if you have more than 10% bodyfat you should do lots of cardio before you try to bulk up how you did. If you try bulking without cardio you will get bigger but look fat because your muscles will not show. In this guy's case he sounds like he's fat so he needs to do cardio, weight training, and watch what he eats.

During the summer I drink alot of beer and go tubing... that helps only if you dont wear a life jacket becuase you become a really strong swimmer...
Other then that I run a mile 4 times a week, lift 5 times a week, drink a bottle of water a day, and eat what ever I want and I am content with my self.

I'm 5'7", 170 lbs. with 7.5% body fat. I have thick bones and thick, powerful legs that contribute to the weight.
I have an extremely active lifestyle so I can afford to eat what I want usually. However, I usually just eat a TON of stuff that is good for me because I don't want health effects later on down the line. I only drink water, milk, and juices.
Anyway, I usually hit the gym about six times a week, doing 3 different workouts 2 times apiece. I also run, play basketball, racquetball, and baseball varying amounts of times a week. I also manage to box about once a week and jumprope as well.
The thing about cardio is that it is much better for you and you'll stick with it if you ENJOY it. I dislike running distances but enjoy sprints so when I run, I usually warm up with a half mile and then do about another half mile worth of sprints and then close with another half mile warmdown. I can play basketball, baseball or racquetball all day long (and occasionally do on weekends).
Find a plan that adds a cardio thing you enjoy to do. Put about 5 days of workouts in a week. Cut out energy drinks, sodas, alcohol, etc... Don't go to fast food at all. I cut fast food out last year during Lent (Catholics...) and have had it since very little and usually only on road trips.
Finally, what's with the weight gain and subsequent loss? That is a shock to your system each time you attempt to do it. So the best thing is to stick with a workout year long or otherwise you're damaging yourself.
Good luck.

Fauchpj is my hero, im taking his advice, im skinny like he used to be, but ive gone to the gym sparingly for a year. i started takin Creatine a couple weeks ago and can already tell a BIT of a diff. i just try to eat the healthiest of wat ever my options are, and those with the most protein (chicken, beans, beef etc)
but in order to lose weight, i guess your diet would be different. try taking Chromium picolinate supplements, they speed up your metabolist and do excersice at the same time, thats kept me in my weight even when i ate all the junk in the world and didnt do nothing but play ps2. than again ive always been skinny for some odd reason, maybe predisposition?
