6451, Here is my rant. Little help for those who sold their 2gnt

Well here is my dillema, I am having a hard time detaching from my car. I am continue to spend lots and lots of money on it, and I'm never really satisfied and am having a hard time growing up. What can I do to help with my eclipse obsession.

i dunno, but do you have any more pics of your car?

I'm looking at a Red 98 GSX, and I wanted to see more of yours, since it is basically the same car (on the outside anyways :P). I want to see how I like those rims.

I went for a car that was better than my turbo RS in every aspect. Handling, acceleration, options, interior, comfort, etc. That's how I detached.

she's just a GF, not your wife. Don't listen to her, however, don't detach from your eclipse - EVER. Go outside and marvel at its beauty so that you can forget about all this moving on stuff. :)

Meanwhile $400 puts me in mid 13's. Remind me again what $400 can buy a 2GNT?

about 4700 miles worth of gas , depending on exact gas cost and how effectively your car burns fuel.

I have been having the same dilemma as you. I keep putting money into my Eclipse but i'm still not 100% happy with it. I think the best solution is to just keep it in it's current state and save all of your extra money to get another car. I think i'm gonna keep my Eclipse as a side car to work on just for fun on the weekends. As a daily driver the Eclipse is just too unreliable.

I dont like your car.
If you really hadda go Pontiac,
you shoulda bought a GTO.

or just keep the styling of a DSM
and get a GSX.

I was going to say something, but he left out "exterior" or "looks". Every time I go outside I love looking at the eclipse. Sure it handles bad, its slow, the interior is clean but bland, not many options... i consider it comfy but I don't know about my passenger(s).

p.s. you know my opinion... keep your car!!! At least save up until you can just purchase a whole new car, and put this one aside as a project/weekend car. Thats my plan, cuz I want an Evo when I get out of college.

I don't know theres many times during the ownership of the car when I question, the amount of money I put into it was it even worth it. Yes my girlfriend has a huge say because she just put a new head on it and did a crap load of maintence to it in order to drive it down to me from new jersey to florida. I respect every thing she says, and I'd hate to get rid of it and seem ungreatful, because thats sorta like me smackin her in the face and be like yea w/e dont care if you spent money to fix it.

My 2gnt was falling apart. I had already blown one engine and taken the turbo kit off. The car was turning into a POS. Got something much better IMO. Didn't really know what I was getting into as far as parts and labor cost though. O well, it's still sexy as sh*t.

Sell it, buy the IS and you'll forget all about it.

I would keep it, once you get everything fixed then you just need to keep up with regular maintenance.
6497, RE: Here is my rant. Little help for those who sold their 2gnt
Posted by EclipseTenzoR, Mar-29-06 06:53 AM
Everything is fixed, anything that could have possibly been done as far as maintence has been done. But I think truth be told the amount of modifications I have done to the car has just taken away from reliability. The turbo feels real good though, and its something I just cant pry myself from.

I had no problem whatsoever letting go. ;)
The ride home after putting it back to stock was kind of depressing though...

I went and bought a BMW Z3 three years back. You know, trying the more "mature" car thing. I couldn't part with my baby then, not for the peanuts we get by selling or trading!! I kept her. I still slowly piece things on her. I have also come to realize, no matter how much faster, comfy, reliable, faster, crisper handling, distinguished, faster, oh and did I say FASTER, the beamer is, I still fucking love my eclipse, or as I call her "the batmobile". Even the girls I get with the beamer are of higher caliber, and FASTER!!, But alas, I will never part with my black bitch! And I am 28! Its a hobby, its a love afair, its "brokeback eclipse" lol

Keep it, and buy another car hehe. I plan to keep my eclipse long after getting new cars. It's just so sexy and fun. If you have to move onto something better, that's still turbo.

2gnt is a healthy obsession - you need no cure. there is no cure, other than becoming old (or "mature" as some deluded people here have put it) or boring and tasteless (like, buying a pontiac)

lol

Ok, I admit I can't go 10 seconds without seeing another grand prix on the road and while I like the styling I can see how others wouldn't. But it's such a comfortable car with a lot of cool gadgets and I'm going to be commuting back and forth for my last semester at school. So this was my #1 choice for those long drives. If I had to do it over again I would've gotten a 97+ GTP instead of my Eclipse. I just love these things.

Plus it's so strange driving a car that actually has torque...

Hey I remember you! All the old-timers are coming back since the pits have opened.

You better remember me! You were the one who out-bid me for that HRC FMIC :P.

I stopped modding when it got to the point where the only way to get more power was to rebuild. So I didn't come here as much and once the pits closed I sort of stopped completely but lurked from time to time. Now that they're back, so am I. What can I say? I'm addicted to this place. :thumbsup

No matter what we drive we always seem to come back here. Once I joined this forum in 2001 it only took a couple months before my 2gnt was turbo'ed, along w/ a lot of other mods.

If you have the patience to deal with a car that is probably coming up on what, 7-10 years old now, and don't mind constantly maintaining it, then have fun with it.

I personally had no trouble getting rid of mine, it was not a car that made sense in pothole city New Orleans. Then again, neither does my Mustang but it is a little better.

Coming up for me is probably a very reliable, very quick, and decently good looking car. Accord Sedan V6 6-speed.

You get the mod bug and you start spending ridiculous amounts of money and before you know it, you've got a ton of money in a mass produced car that isn't worth anything to anyone but you. That's fine on a lot of cars that have a solid base for modifications, unfortunately the Eclipse isn't one of them. It just happens to LOOK fast.

Regardless, do what you please. I feel like I used my head instead of my heart on this one. That's a decision you have to make yourself.

That's one of the things I'm most excited about the z. They have the this MVB (I think that's what its called) that adds at least 15hps and 18lbs of torque for $120. I just saw an independent tester go on the dyno so this isn't one of those ebay scams. Plus they have ecu flashing and headers actually work in this car (at least 15 hps). Add the fact the there are centrifical chargers, superchargers, and turbochargers (both single and twin) available. Plus Stillen and Greddy are CARB legal! I'd don't plan to mod it right now but I'm super excited about the prospects.

Yeah but I still don't know what to do with my 2gnt. I would like to sell the car as a whole, but if not, then just sell the kit, then sell the car. I'm just afraid some ricer will crash my car. It'll definitely be a sad day when that time comes and the owner drives away.

I traded my car with all the mods on it and I can't believe they took it as is. It was a 98 with 91k on it and I got $3500 for it. I'm wondering how long it'll be til I pull up next to it at a light with someone else driving it. :twitch
