5781, Producing optimum vacuum for smoking in car
Posted by Keith2172, Mar-20-06 05:15 AM
For those that smoke in the car, how far down is the window? I have noticed that 1/8th of an inch will produce an optimum amount of suction, though in the summer time it's all the way down. What do you do?

I usually have the window about 3 or 4 inches, then crack the sunroof. That seems to work real well for me.

about an inch and I have the HVAC controls so that the air is coming in from outside and fan is on enough to push it out (feet/defrost setting)

i typically dont smoke, let alone would someone smoke in ANY car i own. last i heard, it drops the value. laugh while you will as 2gnt's arent worth much anymore, but buy a ferrari and smoke in it and im sure you wont be able to get all the money that a non smoking ferrari would.

I won't smoke in my next car.

My Talon has a list price of N/A so I'm not concerned about it.

I tried rolling the window down about 2" but it was not enough to suck all the weed fumes out of the car, and it stank like dank for about three days. Maybe I need to drive faster or unroll the other window next time.

I hear ya. 2-3 inches in the Subaru works wonders for the dankage.

anywhere from .5-1" on the highway. A little more when city driving.
And no, I haven't smoked in the Evo yet. It still smells so good in there. mmmmmm.... leather Recaros. ;)

Yep, 1" - 2" but you must keep passenger side closed. And when your stopped at a light, stick your fingers out the window and onto the roof. Trust me, all of you with girlfriends that dont smoke and hate when you arrive smelling like an ashtray know what im talking about. But you know you have to have one on the way over because you cant have one when your with her. It sucks, im quitting!

I'll agree with the 0.5-1.0" measure. I've always got the fan on 1-speed, so there's usually good flow. What I hate is when you stick the cherry out the gap to ash and it comes right back into the car and all over you. "Fuck it," I say, as I figure that's where the flavor is. :+

Reminds me. I need to seriously dust the dash. Looks like the fucking mummy exploded up there or something.

EDIT:
Now, who's been burned (pun intended) by a butt gone rogue coming back in behind your back at the trailing edge of the glass when you have the window down too much, but not all the way?

/me raises hand.

Me. One time a cigarette exploded (I'm not kidding!) like a pop sound and there was burning stuff eating through my shorts, I brushed it off and it ate a hole in my seat.

I've had cigarettes fly back and land on the carpet where the back seat used to be (don't care, $10 at walmart for that crap).

: Raises Hand :
I have burnt so many shirts and jackets on the back by leaning against a cherry that flew back in. You only notice it when you smell something burning and find out its your skin.

* the worst is when you fall asleep with a cig and the burn wakes you up, or you wake up with your heart pounding cause you dont remember putting it out, and you start looking around like SH*T.

I usually threaten to kill anyone about to light up in my car, that usually keeps the smoke out

Since youre from canada, can you smoke weed in your car? or is that considered the same as drinking and driving?

I haven't tried it yet but i was told by one of the detailers at work, putting half a pound of coffee beans in a ventalated bag under the seats will help eat up the "dankage".
Don't smoke in my car, too much flyng back in.

it is legal. just a few weeks ago we got busted with a pipe, they hauled all of us into a cruiser, but when we gave them everything we had, only about a bowl's worth, they just knocked out our pipe and gave the pipe back and said keep it in our house. i don't like driving blazed so i don't do it that much, but it is nowhere near as bad as driving drunk.. since odds are i will go 10 under the speed limit and only for a few blocks at a time.
