5056, Mitsubishi to return to WRC in 2009?!?!?!?! Posted by DR1665, Mar-10-06 03:00 AM
From Crash.net
Mitsubishi boss, Isao Torii has revealed that the earliest they will return to the FIA World Rally Championship in an official capacity will be in 2009.
Mitsubishi quit the WRC at the end of last year and while they are still keen to keep a presence in the sport, they want to do so by running the Lancer WRC 05 with privateers, something that means they do not pay the bills. Torii added that their focus at the moment is the Dakar Rally and preparing the new Pajero for its debut in 2007.
"Up until 2009 the Dakar project will enjoy our absolute priority," he confirmed to rallye-magazin.de.
Furthermore, Torii again called for a reduction in the number of events in the WRC and while he recently voiced his support for the Rally Norway, one of eight WRC candidate events taking place this year, he reckons that Sweden and Norway should take turns holding a round of the World Rally Championship - rather than both running one every season.
"Sweden and Norway should not take place within one season, they should alternate. We have too many rounds at the moment and many of them do not make sense," he concluded.
Thought I would share in case you haven't customized a Google homepage to show this information. ;)

Newsflash: Mitsubishi is bankrupt.
If they're still in business in 2009, I'll be amazed.

Yeah, i figured putting the 06 eclipse, and the raider would help pull them out of the quicksand, but apparently not. I think they need to quit making new evo models. I'm sure thats what stops so many people from buying them. You fork over 30k for a new evo, 7 months later, theres a newer one. Its like buying a new honda accord, your car is always outdated.

They have to keep making them to participate in rally. Just because they are not running their own programme for a while does not mean they aren't selling cars to privateers all over the world. You can't run it if it's not homologated.
Even so, they are on the tight side. Oh well. Hooray for RSS feeds.

WTF is the darker?
Also your right, their should be only 2 typs of evo, one which should just be the evo 9, and another the mr, no rs bull shit. Also I think the new eclipse is going to help their dying sales but lets be honest when did mitsubishi ever regulate sales? The conquest was a joke, the performance sucked, and when they released the wide body conquest it recived a huge power cut. Then the dsm, they just broke, post dsm(95-99) I would say was really their golden age lol, most of the tunerz(from what I have seen) have a 2g. But then again it was a poor mans evo... the gsx that is.
If you look at the best selling car companys(toyota and honda) they sell mid size suv's, family cars, and hybrids. I am not saying that mitsu should try to make a hybrid... that would be a desaster. But their isant a bigt market for performance cars. The most recent best selling performance cars, under 30g, are the mustang, srt-4, rsx, ss cobolt, and civic. Out of those I would have to say the srt-4 and the stang are the most popular. The mustang is gay, but the srt-4 is basically what the gst offered. I guss this is just a rant to bring back the 4g63 in the eclipse.

Dakar rally...Race across the grueling Africian desert. I especially get a kick out of Dump trucks in the events.

I am a firm believer that Mitsu's failure is not firing the design dept. I think that aside from the EVO, all cars, SUV's, etc. that Mitsu offers are FUGLY! Hell, even the EVO is not a pretty car, but I love the power potential, and it looks business-like, as in KICKING ASS!!
