5034, Anybody have any experience with 2000-2002 Audi S4s? Posted by CopperEclipse96, Mar-09-06 03:49 PM
Just wondering. I've been looking at them, and I really like them a lot. Might be time for a new car. Can't beat the german build quality. What do u guys think?

As far as "german quality", the audi's are notorious for having the worst among german manufacturers. They typically are even less than american manufacturers. The last time I saw one of those JD quality rankings, Audi ranked below Mitsubishi. Just some food for thought.
that aside, one of the surgeons I worked with had an S4, and he loved it. I tried to get him to upgrade the turbo, but he didn't want to throw out his warranty just yet >)

You mean turboS. hehe. Yeah, thats not cheap either.
EDIT: the reliablility might not be the best, but i mean like build quality, it's much nicer. I drove my uncle's A4 for a little while... that thing rides so nice... so quiet, no rattles, the good thud when the doors close...

Not a big fan of audi's myself- in my opinion- audi=overpriced VW, which , in my dealings, stands for Virtually Worthless. While i cant speak specifically about the s4, im talking audi in general. Plus- another drawback for the german automakers- if something breaks, get ready to shell out a crapload of money to fix it. For some reason, german parts are 40000X more expensive...

I got 3 friends w/ 2001 S4's. One messed up the transmission, and that was super expensive, but the other 2 seem to be running fine. My friend used to have a 2004 A4 that had a lot of electrical issues and he traded it in for a new 05 TT. Hasn't had problems w/ that. I have always loved S4's, cause they hold their value really well but when they break they are expensive.

I as looking at an s4 also not too long ago. Came on here and the general consensus was you'll hate it when it needs repairs. I chose not to buy it but they are beautiful cars imo. Amazing ride that I WISH I could get in the eclipse. lol

I used to work on a '01 s4 quite regulary and test drive it. Awesome car, fast and handled great, but like I said I got to WORK on it quite regulary. Everything from premature brake wear( 2 sets in 10k) to wheel bearings, to electrical issues, axles, transmission promblems, and a few other things. All this with 85k on it. The first time I worked on it and drove it I almost bought one. Then the guy kept bringing the car back for different issues and I decided against ever owning one. Euro cars in general have a good level of fit and finish, but are'nt nearly as reliable and cheap to fix as a Japanese cars. If you got the money for an s4 theres much better cars out there.

i am now the proud owner of a 2003 3.0 V6 A4 quattro (AWD) that i bought from a Ferrari/Lotus/mazeratti dealer in Salt lake city for whole sale price...($8000+ BELOW blue book)
all i can say... Eclipse what?
A very nice car! Period. Audi DID have a questionable product a while back, but they have come full circle since then.
the S4 is a very nice ride with a lot of potential if you want to start off in that cost bracket.

My uncle said he would sell me his 2003+ (not sure exactly what year) A4 3.0 Quattro for $12,000. It has 4X,XXX miles, and is in damn good shape. His wife drove it, so there's minor scratches, but never abused. Too bad it's automatic, and it's the crappy 3.0, but thats a damn good deal. I could drive it until I found something I really wanted, then sell it and probably make a little money.
