Behold my latest invention:

Old smart phone + double sided tape + ruler = cheap way to inspect engine bay and underneath chassis.

Today I used it to record video around the engine bay, and discovered that my oil leak resulted from the HRC downpipe wearing a hole into the oil pan. Hopefully I can get that welded while it's still on the car.

Anyways, thought the pits needed a post.

PS: Anyone have a good method for bending a down pipe slightly for clearance issues?

Doesn't sound likely unfortunately. Screams fire hazard to me.

Ideal situation would be to pull the downpipe, lock it in a vice or some sort of fixed device. Heating the bend with a torch and then pounding away at it with a mallet and repeating until it clears.

Either way, a PITA.

I'm going to drain the oil so I don't think anything will be able to ignite.

I like your solution xbox because it involves a hammer.

Even with the oil drained, it will be tough to get a decent weld. Any spec of oil left will seep into the weld puddle and contaminate it. If you want it to hold, you had better drop the pan and clean front and back with a solvent (acetone is my preference). If you want to be cheap and lazy, leave the pan installed and drain the oil, rough up the leak with sand paper, clean with acetone, and gob some JB Weld on there. Wait 24 hrs and fill the oil back up. It might just work. If it fails, chip it off and get it properly welded.

I've seen the JB weld option on the internets - suprisingly, it seems to work very well!
