48320, New Toy Posted by RyaN95i4, Jun-05-12 10:03 AM
Actually picked this up in early may, but haven't been on 2gnt in a bit.
After I sold the Avenger, I had immediate regrets and began looking for something new to fill the void. Took me a few months, but finally found something, even though I had to go to California to get it:

'73 240Z w/ a L28ET swap.
This was actually the car I was asking if someone in Cali was close by and would take a look at a month or so ago here in the Pits.

Thanks guys.
Right now im just trying to get the motor fully sorted before I start modding it more. So far Ive had to run a new return line so I went ahead and replaced all the fuel lines from the firewall foward w/ SS lines, inline filter and added an aeromotive FPR. Also replaced the old school blinky-light a/f gauge w/ a wideband.
Motor is strong (supposedly less than 30K miles on a factory reman motor), but Im just learning about this archaic AFM setup (Motor is from a 280ZX Turbo). Right now it runs pig rich at idle and anywhere below 3500 rpm or so. Once thats sorted I'll go ahead and add a FMIC and up the boost.
Stock motor should be good for 300-350whp, which is a decent number for a rwd car that weighs 2300lbs :)
Im wishing I would have hung onto my HX40 from the Avenger, would have made a good match for the L28

Old school Nismo, nice.
Try source an hx40 or hx35 from a cummings turbo diesel from a junkyard. Read, rebuild kits are around 100ish. You could get lucky on tuners classifed dsm part outs.

Same here, have always wanted one.
My Dad had a 78 Fairlady since I was kid, and until recently had planned on restoring it...it was just too far gone (rust).

Its on the list, lol. This archiac AFM setup is one of the original Bosch fuel injection setups, my first time ever messing with a car with something like this, ha. Makes the 420a ECU look like a super computer.

Someone on another forum asked for engine pics
Of course, as soon as I got the camera out, it started raining again...

Very cool swap -- if this motor ever pops, it will be hard to not consider an LSX swap: cheap, reliable and plenty of room

Gave the car a wash, a full tank of gas, and went for a cruise out in the country. the GF brought the camera along and we made a few stops along the way for pics.
