47036, Am I being excessive? Posted by 740 turbo brick, Jul-12-11 05:41 PM
Ok so my Eclipse is falling apart. Literally every day I take it out, something else breaks on it, meaning I have to spend more money to make it work/look right, and its dragging me down and taking away from my motor fund. Instead of letting this nickle and dime me to death, Im trying to find a near perfect 97-99 shell to put my motor, MS, suspension and interior in. Esentially I want to get all the good things off this car, on to the new body, and either scrap or sell the rest. The thought of keeping it as a track only drag body hit me, but Im hurting for money as it is, so getting some back would be nice. Any thoughts here? Honestly I dont see any other way around this feeling I have about my car now. I used to love driving it and working on it, but any more the thought of driving it just disgusts me, to the point I dont anything to do with it.

If I only made 167whp I would be angry too! :P
Is the shell that bad? Unless its totally rusted out, I think you would be better fixing it.
What do you mean stuff breaks all the time?

Front bumper is toast, spider webbed, plastic gouged, repainted from another car in the first place. Fenders are rusting in the corners and side skirt holes Side skirts are falling off, cracking, and hiding the next point on my list... Half dollar sized hole in the rocker panel Rust holes in trunk and passenger side floor Sunroof randomly snapping the plastic guide off the inside of the track Core support damage from P.O. accident
Im sure theres more but I cant remember it all. Oddly enough theres no strut tower rust what so ever.

As for the stuff breaking, one day the sunroof did what it did, after no previous problems. Next day I have MS resets all over the place. Following day side skirt falls off, gets run over. After that it hasnt left the garage.

If you can find one cheap enough - go for it. Sounds like the rust is taking over. Thought of getting a welder and fixing it all?
You should sell it and buy a turbo :P
(I kid)

When I had an eclipse that constantly fell apart, I didn't know how truly miserable I was with it (in terms of my bank account) until I sold it. Sell it for a reliable car, and clear your mind for a few months is my advice. You'll know what you want after that.

Thats kinda minor other than the core support. Dont feel bad, you'd cry if you seen mine. But,I aint tapping out on my black rs.
This past weekend, took a few pictures of it after I replaced my brakes, gas tank back spray which was a kink in charcol canister hose, atx flush, oil full tune up.
If you are willing to convert 95-96 over to 97-99 and own a honda

And its not really your car you hate, just that particular body that is falling apart.

Your first point is what is making me more at ease. The body of the car will go, but the heart and soul will go into another, healthier body. I would honestly feel alot better about it. I did spend 4 years working on this car though, so it will be a bit tough for me.
