Thank a soldier... No one else is more responsible for this than the men and women who serve.

Agreed, Dino. I wish I was part of the positive energy that is outside of the White House fence right now. On a side note, I belive that Obama has just sealed his second term.

You're the second person I've seen say this, and I don't understand why. What did Obama have to do with it? He was all for pulling the troops *out* during his campaaign.

I suppose my assumption is based off several sentences in his speech. One in which he stated that it was he who directed a group of ppl to seek Osama out and shortly after was located. Unfortunately, I do not have the facts or am I able to locate the speech to directly quote from at this time

I highly doubt this event will seal him a second term. I do however commend those that put there lives on the line to secure our freedom and took out this pathetic excuse for a human life form.

This will change nothing. We're fighting for oil (aka Black Gold), if anything I believe this will prolong our stay over there and/or cause a worse retaliation.

Sadly you are probalbly right about prolonging things and I only wish we could smarten up and drill and produce here to secure a true independence over foreign oil and those that control us through it.

We just need to focus on alternative fuels. Save our oil, and focus on such things as BioDiesel. I've actually have been considering buying a diesel car for a DD, and using BioDiesel. But back on topic, sure Bin Laden was bad guy but his influence was hardly admirable. We should focus on people who have a high influence like Kim Jong Il, or the genocide in Africa. But doing either one of those things wouldn't "benefit" the United States like oil in the Middle East does.

Congrats, to the Seal team.

This won't change my vote in 2012.

Heh heh.

Happy as hell that he is dead. Fully aware that he directed little of the day to day Al Quaida. BUT a great symbolic victory. As well as closure for those who lost loved ones on 9/11.

But the bigger question is going to be; why was he buried at sea? This is going to bring the conspiracy theorists out in droves. No body - it never happened.

Congrats to our Navy seals for their successful operation.

Already happening like crazy.

They say he has been dead since 2002 now sitting in a morgue, lol.

My first thought, how do we know it's actually true. I would imagine some images/video will surface in the coming weeks, but for the time being, idk. I'm not a conspiracy theory nut, but it just seems strange to me that the body was immediately buried at sea. I'd want to parade that carcass around to the world for at least a little while!

Anyways, if he's dead that's good news for the world.

Internet says this about burial at sea under Islamic law:

"... if an enemy may dig up the grave to mutilate the body, it is also allowed to bury the deceased at sea to avoid mutilation."

Maybe they contracted Tony Soprano to 'clean things up'...

Why the hell would we care about islamic law? That's the bullshit that started all of this. Sadly I wish we could have captured the bastard, this makes him a martyr to terrorists everywhere, and martyrs inspire people.

I am also really displeased with how the president handled the "news." He took so much credit for himself when all he did was sign the order allowing the troops to move in. Bush gave the standing order to kill or capture Osama. Did anyone else notice the unusual delay between the news of Osama's death and the president's speech? If you paid close attention you would realize the timespot that was very carefully chosen to make the announcement, right during Celebrity Apprentice. Now that's just petty.

Reason, for the sea burial. Is to prevent the afghan/pakis, build a mosque/shrine around his body. The news said, this you should've stayed up to watch the whole thing.

And the conspiracy theorists will say that's part of the propaganda.

See, its not about the reasoning that they did it, its about the fact that they did before showing the body off to the world (let me just say here that I beleive he is dead) . Because, right now, the general public has to just believe the US government. A body that has earned our distrust.

Remember that these theorists still make a case that we did not land on the moon and the FBI shot JFK. In the face of huge factual evidence to the contrary (hell, there is still actual evidence on the moon right now), they make a case against it.

So now, there is a whole lot less evidence and the US government quickly makes the body disappear. Of course, maybe he is dead and Roswell has a new resident.........

Agreed. I can't imagine he would have a burial without at least the President seeing the body for himself. The swift killing and burial within a weekend seems unlikely for someone such as Bin Laden. Is it possible that they have staged the burial at sea to please the other nation and then fill a vacancy at Roswell as you've stated above? Sure. However, will we ever truly know for ourselves? Not likely. As you stated, we have to believe the U.S. Government.

Oh he's definitely dead. He went up against SEALS and he shot at them -> this equals a quick death sentence. He was killed in front of family members, who are being interrogated now. I'm sure they saw what happened. We have DNA evidence - his DNA matched his sisters autopsy remains after her death in a U.S. hospital.

What amazes me is that we are still fighting against extremists via "politically correct" means. If their theme is "terror", then our response should have been equally as psychological. Do what the Koran says will keep a soul from raising to heaven, and soak his body in pigs blood, turn it upside down and bury it in an unmarked grave. Apparently a U.S. general did something similar in the Phillipines a few decades ago. Freaked Islamic extremists out back then and they stopped attacking.

Oh yes - we say we wouldn't want to inflame anyone... but:
1)the extremists who would get offended already want us dead. They cannot want us more dead. They already do extreme things, the most extreme things they can think of. You cannot push them any further as they are already past reason.
2)If "peaceful" Muslims get offended, then these people are really lying to us. They secretly endorse his ways. In much the same way that much of the middle east quietly supports radical groups while trying to appear friendly to the West. After all, in the Koran it says you can lie to your enemies if your goal is destroy them. These "offended" people would INSTANTLY be recognizable as supporters. You can either stand with us, or stand with him.

- You do realize that he was originally trained by SEALS?! lol, but then again he is like 70 years old so hes probably dead!

Was that training at all comparable to the full training a U.S. Navy SEAL gets?

Yes, and all of the weapons that Iraq had and we had intel on, were weapons that we (the U.S.) had given them years before the Iraq war. We are just as much a part of the problem.........oil..........war profiteering........etc etc etc.. It's all about the Benjamins....And keeping the people convinced that we are the "Good Guys" in all of the money making wars, so that they are supported and justified....

I was aware that the CIA gave him training, and that the Pakistani who trained him in terrorism learned things from Navy SEALS, but nothing about him undergoing any direct SEAL training. What's your source on this?

Supposedly killed in 2002, then. Buried at sea, now.

This entire threaded conversation makes me laugh. If Obama gets a re-election for being the sole man pulling the trigger that's it I'm going to Canada, America's trucker hat.
