It happens. Probably not his fault. Probably not even from him, in all actuality.
Did you look at the headers?

Yeah, it originated from his account, according to the headers (those can be spoofed if I recall though).
I was posting the transcript more for how he was interpreting my email tell him about the spam, heh.

Shit. I just went through something like this yesterday.
A couple months back, I contacted an event organizer through using the (AOL) address specified on a contact form. We had a conversation back and forth regarding media credentials, whatever. No big deal.
I get a press release announcing the event is canceled. Okay. That sucks, but I can understand why I got it. Moving on. Yesterday, I get another press release. It's announcing a tire sponsor for a series of rally events on the east coast - 3,000+ miles from me; a guy without a rally car. Oh, and did I mention this press release is a .JPG with text and non-functioning hyperlinks? Yeah.
:facepalm
Me: I would appreciate being unsubscribed from future promotional emails such as this one. Thank you.
Dude: This can hardly be called a promotion. It is an announcement to the small world of US rally that a vendor goes on a limb to support this small sport and its competitors. The only way I can satisfy your request is to remove your address from our mailing list permanently. Please advise whether this is what you want us to do.
With best regards,
Me: I appreciate rally's need for support in all the various forms it can take, and would never begrudge a vendor's showing of support - especially not at this level - but I do not recall how I managed to get onto this mailing list. Did I mess up an opt-in form somewhere?
Dude: We do not send unsolicited e-mail. If you are on our e-mail list, we were in contact before. Do you wish to be removed?
bets regards,
Me: Please. Thank you.
Dude: Done, thank you. Regards,
---------------------------
Seriously? Technically, CAN-SPAM pretty much prohibits this sort of thing. If you have only one email address, simply contacting you is not solicitation of future marketing communications. I tried to give this guy the benefit of the doubt (my opt-in hint), but typical AOL user, no fucking clue how the internet works.
Anyway. You are 100% correct, Sgt. Dave. Dude needs to check his shit. If he was trying to hook you up as a friend or something, he wouldn't have used the bullshit URL modifier.
Fuck it. I'm going home.

If it didn't come from you, how did the spammer who hacked your account know 'code4@zero-signal' was Dave? Either some superl337 h4x took the time to review previously sent messages and integrate actual names into uniquely customized spam, or you sent it.
Considering Dave's been trained to evaluate and prioritize multiple hostile targets at once, I'd consider "I am getting spam. Check your shit" to be quite respectful, and I'd be thinking about changing my passwords.

He was looking past it, which is why you got what I would consider a friendly suggestion to re-evaluate your account security.
Hell it's happened to me before, and and the responses I got were a lot less friendly than what Dave told you. In short, change your password; And, if you got hurt because of what you were told, grow a thicker skin.
