45968, Its 2011 new year, plans/goals. Is everyone still at same employer?
Posted by dalesmitsu, Feb-01-11 06:42 PM
I'm starting a new job tommorrow, my alarm is for 5:30 am but I live 10 minutes away but need to there 5 minutes early. Its through a temp service but lady I talked to didnt say if it was short term employment but first job offer she gave was long term. So, this could also be long term too. I just gottat bust my butt and not be late. She did say if I have to call off I to called this employer plus her office. I havent called in fake just if had car trouble.

It's 12 hrs a day 7am to 7pm with every other weekend off ####. Schedule is two days on two days off then weekend is Fri to Sun with Mon/Tues off. My hrs on my check will vary but still ok, one week will be 36 other will 42 1/2. Pay period is different follows on Thrus or a Friday.
Pay rate is .10 cents more than my previous job, but with more hours and set schedule. I would like to find a second one besides this to fund my bill and car. Mostly likely second job would be delivering pizza's again, due to I'll be be done with one job at 7pm. But hey, tips/mileage is good done it before in the past.

Here's a story what I've been dealing with my current job. To be honest I wouldn't let my child work at this place but a job is job everyone has to start somewhere.
My current job stayed with one shop till it closed then transferred to another just up the road. I guess its akinda like quaker steak/lube just without the bar. Well been with them for about 4yrs, always give me a run around. Excuses like they dont have hours available so they put me on call, everytime I call in gen. manager tell me this and chuckle in the background, I wasn't fired, never been late always came in on my days offs. It was april of last year when I last worked, but actually my time at this place would be 4yrs and two months even though they didnt have me on the schedule but I still have my uniform. If any of you worked in this industry you would know what I'm talking about. Alot of drama.

I did get in but I won't jinx this job but I'll keep this thread updated of whats this job is like.

If any memember that is close by to me or somewhere near my city, that's curious about the temp. service let me know I'll give you the name.

Been here long enough, I know better than that Code4, :7

So, has anyone changed jobs gained a second one due to the economy or are you guys still at the same one.

Started new job this morning @ 7 got off early today @11 due to power outage area me and my crew was supposed to work. Have to call in tonight to see if the machines are working, if there's work in the morning. Well, I did get paid for the 4hours I was there but didnt work due to the power. Hopefully there will be work tommorrow but weekends are open. If not I'll have an extra day plus weeknd off. I'll be working 3 12hr shift nextweekend.
My schedule is two on two off work every other weekend, shift is 12hrs.
Gotta love this set schedule I have, ####.

Economy is now turning here in CT. But everyone wants their shit done today (even though they have put it off for years). We are balls to the walls on jobs that have idiotic turn around times. They figure since they had it planned, we should be able to do it right away.

:scratch Are you admitting you have a drug/alcohol problem. Say it aint so, teklein.

If you where reffering to me, sorry your sol.
I dont drugs, only drink once in awhile but not like a daily basis a 12 pack a day. Just one or two the most, plus my employer has a zereo tolerence and do suprise random drug tests.
Heck if any of you smoke weed at SO, I probably wont stick around that much because 2nd hand contact still shows up on test. I get every other weekend just so you know.
Aint being a poor sport just being honest about it.

United Healthcare is the worst cheapest medical insurance ever. I hate it. We are still on it from my wife's old employer. I pay $1000 per month in premiums to keep COBRA coverage.

And yes, I've been with www.kaptainmyke.com, inc. for going on 6 years now. wahoo

Fuck the job market is all I can say. I graduated last May with a degree in Economics and Philosophy, had two finance internships, and still can't find a job. Starting to feel like I'm destined to work minimum wage the rest of my life.

Look at small businesses around your area. Big corporations are all cutting back or freezing hiring because they are more exposed to the general recession. Many people don't realize that small businesses are the backbone of the economy and supply alot of unforseen jobs in the market. It is hard to find good quality professionals as a small business owner.

yea, they used to be, but have gotten much better. most (83%) of claims are "auto-adjudicated" meaning are processed and paid with no human intervention, all computer power, and that estimate was a year ago. It's higher than that now. didn't use to be that way, which is why, human errors. closest behind is Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) at 30-something %

I started a new job at the beginning of the year out in Ann Arbor (University of Michigan area) and it's pretty kick ass. I tend to find a new job every three or four years so it was about that time.

Economy here in the metro Detroit area is interesting, lots of new startups and it seems like all my friends are working and digging what they are doing. The mix up ain't all that bad.

Detroit is a fucking cool city, I love it. Maybe because I grew up there, but it just has a ton of bad press. I think it's because Detroit was kicking ass for 50 years and everyone got jealous heh.

Still at the same company but different position now. I have been upgraded to Director of Operations finally and now have the ability to get shit done. We have had over 800% customer growth in 2010 and are looking for that or more in 2011. We produced high quality, short form internet advertisement videos and are a leader in the VSEO, SEO, and Social Media Marketing(SMO) arenas. Its a blast and a very creative collaborative environment. If anyone in the Denver area is in the media world, let me know, we are always hiring. If you could stand working for me that is...

If I knew shit about digital media I'd inquire, but I'm strictly analog when it comes to my artistic ability. That and the drive up to Colfax is a bitch from my neck of the woods.

I'm still working for the Subaru dealership in the parts department. I'm also doing a lot of artwork on the side. My biggest seller is custom silkscreened and airbrushed shirts and hoodies, but the most recent piece is actually another car that I drew for one of Teklein's friends. It can be seen here http://ronineclipse2g.deviantart.com/art/BMW-M5-196837646

Feel free to look at my other stuff too. :7

Well, found myself another job. Like 2 days after I posted, the temp agency I applied at called and said they had a job for me. Ended up getting a job at Temple-Inland, a corrugated packaging manufacturing plant. I start at $8/hr, work 7am to 330pm, (7am-7pm with overtime days). Gotta say I like it ALOT better than McDs.

Congrats, :thumbsup Finding work in Ohio economy is tough but they're out there.

Got done 4 hrs ago, 7pm to be exact. Pulled in 3 12hrs days in arow, off nex two days, nextweekend I'm off. I enjoy the set schedule used to the 12hrs. plus having steady flow of work load, heard during the summer its busier. For me I have to be ther 15minutes til 7a cause they tell you (me) which area to work at.

This staffing place that hire start me at 8 also, then moves up once I'm fully hired by the company pay will increase.

Hope it does well for you.

Found out that once I'm hired I'll move up to 9.40 hr. The temp service gets 2.00 fee from my pay rate, so at the moment its 7.40.

So far its going good, have schedule ahead of time for March from the staff that got me in.

I work in manufacturing industry also. Hows its working out for you so far 740brick.

About %100 better than working in fast food. I dont want to say I love it yet, mostly because Im about 2 weeks in so Im on all the bitch work. Shit rolls downhill, you know. Ive been on a few machines so far though and I like that. I feel like Im having more fun at work. Im making $8.00 an hour, hopefully within 6 months I get a raise. Not bad pay, but I have a lot of things on the want list.

Same here I'm having alot of fun also. I was very surprised, at my new thought it would be a quota and rotate to different machines every half hour. An older guy thats been here for 5+ years told they used to do this years ago not anymore.

I would rather delivery pizza than work at fast food, less drama bs plus its fun learn the area plus make decent tips/mileage. Thought about doing this again while working 12 hrs at my new job, with my 2gnt. lol

Agree, pay isn't that bad but I heard from my brother who worked for these temp agencies, that you actually are paid two dollars more an hour when you get hired in. I'm on my third week, notice that the Staffing service only takes out 2.00 bucks for their fees but they are paid 2.00 hour. Which aint bad, so that 2.00 would actually be added to my pay rate. Same, would be for you also, technically you would actually been paid 10 an hour not 8.

I have a pretty big list also, first is a bigger toolbox, get my current 2g up to par and later buy a second 2g as backup.
