45074, Debating on getting a Droid... Posted by 420agreenvilleSC, Sep-03-10 02:47 PM
Figured i'd ask my friendly DSMers.
I have an enV Touch. I want a Droid. I've been researching the differences between the Droid and Droid 2. I have to have a physical qwerty, not on screen.
I'm leaning towards the Droid 2 because of how android allocates the option of storing apps and the resources they use on an external memory card, rather than the internal memory. There are other reasons too. Been comparing battery life, screen size, memory, etc. between the two.
I looked up some things on 4g LTE network, but I realized that it's not gonna be available until Jan. or so, and even then, it's only going to be in larger metropolitan areas.
Wanted to get feedback from you guys on what you wish you had, what to avoid, what is great from the two. I'm also debating on buying the phone straight up, or signing a new contract for the discounted price.
Thoughts please.

I've had a G1 (the FIRST droid phone) for a while now. I fucking love the android OS. I want to step up to a gen 2 phone but I don't have an upgrade for another 6 months IIRC. I got to play with my friend's EVO and it's amazing. The screen is so big it didn't bother me that there wasn't a real keyboard (which is part of the reason I got the G1 in the first place) and Froyo makes the iPhone seem like hacked together crap
I don't know that I'll ever switch to another phone OS.

I run a Nexus One on the ATT network. Love it. Been using unbranded phones now for a few years. Sprint's 4G is not true 4G either if you look at their advertised bandwidth and what true 4G is. And as you said not widely available.
I was a symbian fanatic for a while bit have been converted to the android OS. Love it.

I plan to switch back to Verizon and pick up a Droid soon too. I am beyond sick of dealing with shitty ATT service, and at this point my iPhone is just outdated and no longer the best device available. I was considering either the Droid X or the Incredible..thoughts?

/shrug. I've used a few Google OS phones, and while they were shiny and neat; They still couldn't beat the out-of-the-box functionality of a BB. (Of course I'm referring only to productivity.) I don't buy phones for bells and whistles, only for making my job easier and more efficient.
