It is a plastic/nylon captive nut but I am having a hell of a time finding it as I am not even sure what the technical term for it is. Perused through McMaster without success.
Help me out, and if you have a link to a vendor - even better.

looks like the little square nuts for older headlight adjusters. My old Subaru Legacy uses them for aiming. I've used square license plate nuts in place of them with good results when the old ones disintegrated and were a PITA to find

Hey Dave, that is a square nylon threaded insert (insert nut). McMaster should have them under the threaded insert section.
Edit: Here you go- http://www.mcmaster.com/#threaded-inserts (Click on Press-Fit)
You should be able to pick these up at your local parts house (common use is a license plate fastener).
