Caught this over on Mitsu Media...

As posted in that thread I am interested to hear rebuttal remarks but if Honeywell is indeed letting the Garrett name out to dry, I will be sad.

OP is here:

Lots of discussion.

I believe that happens to every company that builds a quality product. They build there name up on quality and then they get greedy and/or they get pressure from share holders to turn a bigger profit. Or they get bought by a huge corporation and get exploited. It sucks...but it's part of capitalism.

Is that the poorly written, pretty much useless diatribe suggesting we should boycott Honeywell because of this? Please.

1. Those at Garrett who are passionate about turbocharger design and production quality have every option to leave the company and start their own. If the situation was that bad, I suspect they would do so, or at least leave for other challenging environments. Those who would circulate a poorly written, butt-hurt rant calling for boycott likely have less optimistic prospects. I know this is a logical fallacy, but it makes sense to me.

2. Everyone in the performance aftermarket community might profess to be a brand name, consumer whore, but at the end of the day, Ebay isn't overrun with bootleg, Chinese shit because nobody wants it.

Americans vote with their dollars. We demand low, low prices and fat returns on our investments. Quality takes a back seat to having it now. The lowest common denominator strikes again!

Outsourcing is a bitch, but it's part of business. If the quality ends up suffering as much as he's letting on, people will take their business elsewhere; Again, it's all business 101. Maybe he should apply at Borg Warner...
